A Look at Hendschiken's Past

Hendschiken was first written about in the year 1160. Back then, it was called Hentschikon. In the Middle Ages, important landowners like Muri Abbey and Säckingen Abbey owned much of the land here. Even powerful families like the Counts of Lenzburg and the Habsburgs had land in Hendschiken.

By the 14th century, most of the land became part of the Königsfelden Abbey, which was owned by the Habsburg family. For a long time, from 1264 to 1798, the Lords of Hallwyl were in charge of local laws and order.

In 1415, the village came under the control of Bern and became part of the Lenzburg district. In 1803, Hendschiken joined the new Canton of Aargau and stayed part of the Lenzburg district.

Later, in the second half of the 20th century, some medium-sized businesses moved to the area. These included companies making paper and plastic packaging. In the 1970s, more homes were built because the town was close to the highway, making it easy for people to travel for work. A church center was also opened in 1982.
