Ammerswil is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It's found in the Lenzburg area, within the canton of Aargau. Ammerswil is about 3 kilometers (less than 2 miles) southeast of the bigger town of Lenzburg.

A Glimpse into Ammerswil's Past
Ammerswil has a long history! Even though some very old tools from the Neolithic (New Stone Age) have been found here, the first real settlement was an old farm built by the Alamanni. The village of Ammerswil was first mentioned in old writings way back in 924. Back then, it was called Onpretiswilare. Later, in 1306, its name was written as Ombrechtzwile.
Who Ruled Ammerswil?
Over the centuries, different powerful families and groups ruled Ammerswil. First, it was controlled by the Counts of Lenzburg. After them, the Kyburg family took over, followed by the famous Habsburg family. Finally, in 1415, the city-state of Bern gained control.
Starting in the 1200s, local lords, like the Lords of Hallwyl, had rights over the village. These rights changed hands a few times in the 1300s. But in 1484, these rights went to Bern, which then made Ammerswil part of its Lenzburg district.

The village has an old church that was built in a style called Late Romanesque. It was made bigger in 1640. There's also a barn and a special storage building for the church. The main house for the church's leader, called the rectory, was built in 1783. It's designed in a style called Classicist.
