Heveningham is a small village in the East Suffolk area of Suffolk, eastern England. It's about four miles (6.4 km) southwest of Halesworth. In 2005, around 120 people lived here.
The famous Heveningham Hall, a large country house built in 1777, is located in the village. It used to belong to a noble family called the Lords Huntingfield.

Exploring Heveningham's Past
Heveningham has a long history. In the years 1870–1872, a book called Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described it as a village and parish in the Blything district of Suffolk.
Amazing Historic Buildings
St. Margaret's Church
St. Margaret's Church is a beautiful old church in Heveningham. It was built in 1539 and has a special style called Perpendicular. Today, it is a Grade I listed building, which means it's a very important historic building.
Heveningham Hall
Heveningham Hall is another amazing Grade I listed building. It stands where an even older house once was. That first house was built for a person named William Heveningham in 1658.
Fun Country Fair
Every summer, a special country fair takes place in the big grounds of Heveningham Hall. This event is very important for the village. It celebrates local country traditions. You can see activities like a Sheep Show, Clay Pigeon Shooting, and a Poultry Exhibition. It's a great way to experience rural life!
How Heveningham's Population Changed
Around the year 1800, more people lived in Heveningham than today, about 310. The population dropped a lot between 1850 and 1950, from about 425 to 150 people. This decrease might have happened because people moved to cities during the Industrial Revolution. Also, the First World War and Second World War certainly played a part.
Since 1960, the number of people living in Heveningham has slowly grown. In 2011, including the nearby parish of Ubbeston, about 225 people lived in the area.

In 2011, there were 52 young people under 21 years old. About 50 people were between 61 and 100 years old. This means a large part of the population depended on the working people. Around 123 people between 20 and 61 were working.
Occupations and Jobs
In 1881, many people in Heveningham worked in farming, including raising cattle. Over sixty men worked in this area. Many women at that time said they did not have a specific job. A lot of people, especially women, worked in homes as servants in 1881. This was partly because Heveningham Hall needed many staff.
By 2011, things had changed. About 58 women had jobs. Three worked in farming or fishing, and thirteen worked in healthcare and social work. For men, 61 had jobs. Seven worked in farming or fishing, seven in construction, and six in science or professional fields.
Famous People from Heveningham
- Sir Edward Echyngham (died 1527) owned land in Heveningham.
- Joshua Vanneck, 1st Baron Huntingfield (1745–1816) and his son, also named Joshua Vanneck, 1st Baron Huntingfield (1778–1844), were important figures connected to Heveningham Hall.
- Air Vice Marshal Thomas Traill (1899–1973) and the actor Stratford Johns spent their last years in the village.
