Discovering Hildebran's History
The town of Hildebran has an interesting story behind its name. There are two main ideas about where the name came from.
How Hildebran Got Its Name
The most common belief is that the town was named after two people from the 1800s: Solomon Hildebrand and his son, Jacob. They owned land in the area.
Another idea suggests the town was named after Pope Gregory VII. He was an important leader in the 11th century and was also known as Hildebrand of Sovana.
When Hildebran officially became a town in 1899, the letter "d" was removed from "Hildebrand," giving us the name we know today.
