History of Hinglaj Mata

The Story of Shakti Peeths

Long ago, there is a story about Lord Shiva and his wife, Dakshayani. When Dakshayani passed away, Lord Shiva was very sad. He began a powerful, divine dance called the Tandava. To help him, Lord Vishnu used his special powers. He scattered parts of Dakshayani's body across many places in the Indian subcontinent.

Each place where a part fell became a very holy site. These are known as Shakti Peeths. There are 51 such special places. It is believed that Dakshayani's head fell at Hinglaj. This makes Hinglaj Shakti Peeth one of the most important of all these holy sites.

At each Shakti Peeth, there is also a form of Lord Shiva called Bhairava. At Hinglaj, the Bhairava is known as Bhimalochana. This Bhairava is found in a place called Koteshwar, Kutch.

The Idol's Journey

The idol of Shri Hingdaj Mata that is in Kadasar village today has an interesting journey. It was brought from Pakistan, specifically from a region called Balochistan. This idol then found its home in Kadasar village, near Rajkot, in Gujarat.

Historically, the area where Hinglaj Mata is worshipped is known as Saurashtra. It is a very old and respected place for devotees of Mata Hingdaj. There is also a story that Harsidhhi Mata and King Vikram once visited the Hinglaj Shakti Peeth.
