Hiram Law Bullock (born September 11, 1955 – died July 25, 2008) was an amazing American guitarist. He was famous for playing jazz funk and jazz fusion music. Hiram was also a session musician, meaning he played guitar for many different artists in various music styles.

Hiram Bullock's Early Life and Musical Journey
Hiram Bullock was born in Osaka, Japan. His parents were African American and served in the U.S. military there. When he was two years old, his family moved back to Baltimore, Maryland. It was clear early on that Hiram had a special talent for music.
He started learning piano at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. He even gave his first public performance when he was just six years old! Later, he tried playing the saxophone and bass guitar. But at sixteen, he found his true passion: the electric guitar.
Learning and Playing Music
Hiram went to McDonogh School for Boys in Reisterstown, Maryland. He was even the captain of the band in middle school. He then studied at the University of Miami. There, he met other talented musicians like guitarists Pat Metheny and Steve Morse, and bass players Jaco Pastorius and Will Lee.
To pay for his studies, Hiram played music in nightclubs in Florida. After college, he moved to New York. He became very well-known for playing with Will Lee on the TV show Late Night with David Letterman. He also worked with famous musicians like David Sanborn and Bob James.
Hiram's Famous Music and Collaborations
You can hear Hiram Bullock's guitar playing on many popular songs. He played on Bob James' song Angela, which was also the theme song for the TV show Taxi. He also contributed to Steely Dan's album Gaucho (1980) and Paul Simon's One Trick Pony (1980).
Hiram also played on Sting's album ...Nothing Like the Sun (1987) and Billy Joel's The Stranger (1977). He worked with many other great artists too, including Harry Belafonte, Marcus Miller, Carla Bley, Miles Davis, Ruben Rada, and Gil Evans.
Albums and Bands
Hiram was part of a band called the 24th Street Band. They released three albums: 24th Street Band (1979), Share Your Dreams (1980), and Bokutachi (1981). In 1982, he released his first solo album, First Class Vagabond, in Japan.
Also in 1982, Hiram became an original member of The World's Most Dangerous Band. This was the house band for the TV show Late Night with David Letterman. He played with the show for about two years. Later, he released more solo albums like From All Sides (1986), Give It What You Got (1987), and Way Kool (1990).
He even had his own special guitar models made by Cort, called the HBS and HBS-II.
Later Years and Legacy
On May 27, 2004, Hiram played a special concert with drummer Billy Cobham. They performed songs by the legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix in Germany. An album of this performance was released after Hiram passed away.
Sadly, Hiram Bullock died from cancer on July 25, 2008, in New York City. He was 52 years old. He left behind a great legacy of music and inspired many guitarists.
