Discovering the Hisonotus megaloplax
Scientists officially described the Hisonotus megaloplax in 2009. Two researchers, Tiago P. Carvalho and Roberto E. Reis, found and named this fish. They also discovered three other similar Hisonotus species at the same time. These were H. iota, H. montanus, and H. leucophrys.
The first place where H. megaloplax was found is called its type locality. For this fish, it was a stream named Arroio Caraguatá. This stream is in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, near the town of Passo Fundo.
