Hochdorf District is a region in the Canton of Lucerne in Switzerland. It used to be called an Amt, which means a district or administrative area. The main town, or capital, of this district is Hochdorf.
As of 31 December 2020, about 74,143 people live here. In 2013, the name changed from Amt Hochdorf to Wahlkreis Hochdorf. This was part of a bigger plan to reorganize the canton. Even with the name change, Hochdorf District stayed mostly the same.

Changes Over Time
Sometimes, smaller towns or villages decide to join together to form a larger one. This is called a merger. On January 1, 2021, the former municipality of Altwis merged into the municipality of Hitzkirch. This means Altwis is now part of Hitzkirch.
