Hodges is a small town located in Greenwood County, South Carolina, in the United States. In 2010, about 155 people lived there. The town's mayor is Michael George.
Hodges got its name from a brave soldier named Major General George Washington Hodges. He was a very important leader of South Carolina's military forces. General Hodges was born in 1792 and passed away in 1876. He even fought in the War of 1812! You can find his old grave in a hidden cemetery not far from town.
Geography of Hodges
Hodges is located in the northern part of Greenwood County. It sits at coordinates 34°17′13″N 82°14′47″W / 34.28694°N 82.24639°W.
U.S. Route 178 goes right through the middle of Hodges. This road can take you about 34 miles northwest to Anderson. Another major road, U.S. Route 25, passes just east of town. It leads north about 44 miles to Greenville. If you go south on US 25 with US 178, you'll reach Greenwood in about 8 miles.
The United States Census Bureau says that the town of Hodges covers a total area of about 2.0 square kilometers (0.78 square miles). A very small part of this area, about 0.30%, is water.
