Hollesley is a lovely village and civil parish found in the East Suffolk area of Suffolk. It's located in eastern England, not too far from Ipswich. This village is on the Bawdsey peninsula, about five miles southeast of Woodbridge. In 2011, the village was home to about 1,581 people.
Hollesley is also known for Hollesley Bay, a special type of prison. It's a place where people who have committed crimes go to learn new skills and prepare to return to society. A famous Irish writer named Brendan Behan was once there and later wrote a book called Borstal Boy about his experiences.
The village is also close to Hollesley Bay, which is a coastal area.
Exploring Hollesley's History
The beautiful church of All Saints in Hollesley is very old. Experts believe it might have been built as far back as the 11th century. The church's tower and its bell were added much later, in the 15th century. Inside, you can see lovely stained glass windows created by the Welsh artist Meg Lawrence.
