History of Hollister
Hollister was started in 1907 by a railway company. This company was called the Wichita Falls and Northwestern Railway. It later became the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway. Hollister was built as a stop for trains on their way from Wichita Falls, Texas to Frederick, Oklahoma.
The town was built between two other towns, Isadore and Parton. Many buildings were moved from Parton to create Hollister. Before it was a town, this spot was a railroad switch. People called it "Happy Jack" or "Happy Spur." The first train arrived on November 16, 1907. The first train station was just a boxcar!
Hollister got its name from Harry L. Hollister. He was the train station agent in Frederick. A post office opened in Hollister on February 1, 1909.
The town grew for a while. Its population reached 200 people in 1940. After that, the number of people living there slowly went down. The high school in Hollister closed in 1963. The grade school closed a few years later in 1968.
Around the year 2000, Hollister still had a post office. It also had a Baptist church and two large buildings called grain elevators. These elevators are used to store grain from farms.
