Holstein is a friendly city in Ida County, Iowa, United States. It's a small community with a population of about 1,500 people. The city is known for its welcoming spirit and its connection to German heritage. In the 2020 census, 1,501 people lived here. This was a small increase from the 1,470 people counted in 2000.

A Look Back: Holstein's History
Holstein was started in 1882. Many of the first people who settled here came from a place called Holstein in Germany. That's how the city got its name! Holstein officially became a city on April 25, 1883. In June 2007, the city celebrated its 125th birthday with a week full of fun events.

- Biggs Wehde (1906–1970): He was an American Major League Baseball pitcher. He played for the Chicago White Sox in 1930 and 1931.
- Lauren K. Soth (1910–1998): He went to Holstein High School. He became a journalist and editor and won the famous Pulitzer Prize award for his work.
