Honey-roasted peanuts are a super yummy snack! They are peanuts covered in a sweet and salty glaze made with salt, sugar, and honey. You can find them in stores from many different companies, like Planters and King Nut. They are a popular treat for people of all ages.

The Sweet Story of Honey-Roasted Peanuts

For a long time, making honey-roasted peanuts was a bit tricky. Before the 1980s, people would put the sweet glaze on the peanuts before roasting them. This made the peanuts sticky and they didn't taste as good or look as nice.

Then, in 1985, a company called Planters started selling their own honey-roasted nut mix. But the real breakthrough came a few years later.

How a Scientist Made Them Better

In 1987, a food scientist named Bill Hoover found a clever way to make honey-roasted peanuts even better! He had retired from North Carolina State University and worked on his idea in his home lab.

Hoover's new method was to roast the peanuts first. Then, while the peanuts were still warm, he would coat them with the sweet glaze. This made the peanuts much less sticky and helped them stay fresh for longer. He sold his special invention to a company called Anheuser-Busch.

Peanuts on Airplanes

For many years, some airlines in the United States gave out free snack-sized bags of honey-roasted peanuts to their passengers. This was a long-standing tradition, especially with Southwest Airlines.

However, in 2018, Southwest Airlines stopped giving out peanuts. They did this to protect people who have peanut allergies. A company called King Nut has provided honey-roasted peanuts and other snacks to many airlines in the United States.
