Hopla is a fun Belgian animated TV show made for very young children, like toddlers. It uses CGI animation to bring its characters to life. The show was created by Bert Smets in 2000 and produced by his company, Bert Smets Productions.
The main character is a friendly rabbit named Hopla. He has three best friends: Onki the pig, Nina the bear, and Lola the kitten. Each episode of Hopla is short, lasting about five minutes. What makes Hopla special is that it has almost no talking. The only sound you hear is the show's name, "Hopla!" This makes it easy for young children from any country to understand and enjoy.
What is Hopla?
Hopla is designed for children aged 0 to 2 years old. It's similar to another well-known show called Tik Tak, which also uses simple visuals and no dialogue to entertain and engage toddlers. The show focuses on simple actions and bright colors to capture the attention of its very young audience.
Meet the Characters
The world of Hopla is filled with cute and friendly characters.
- Hopla is the main character, a curious and playful rabbit.
- Onki is a cheerful pig, always ready for an adventure.
- Nina is a sweet bear.
- Lola is an adorable kitten.
Together, they explore their world and learn new things in a gentle way.
How it's Made: Animation
The show uses CGI animation, which means the characters and their world are created using computers. This type of animation allows for smooth movements and detailed visuals. The animators used a special software called Strata 3D to create the look of Hopla. This technology helps make the characters look almost real, even though they are drawings.
Hopla Around the World
Hopla first aired in 2000 on Ketnet, a TV channel in Belgium. It quickly became very popular there. Because it has no dialogue, the show could easily be shared with children all over the world. Hopla has been shown in 31 different countries. Some of these countries include Canada, Finland, France, Israel, Italy, Japan, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, Turkey, and the United States.
In its home country of Belgium, Hopla has been a huge success. Over 300,000 copies of its home entertainment (like DVDs) have been sold. Books and other items related to the show have sold nearly 700,000 copies. This shows how much Belgian families love Hopla and his friends.
In Portugal, the show was aired on a public channel called RTP2. For these broadcasts, some short descriptions were added to explain what was happening in each scene. In the United States, Hopla was shown on BabyFirstTV. This happened because Bert Smets Productions signed a special agreement with NCircle Entertainment in 2007 to share the show with American audiences.
