Housedon Hill is a special hill located in the Cheviot Hills in Northumberland, England. It sits on the northwestern edge of this beautiful area.
This hill is known for being the most northern "Marilyn" in England. A Marilyn is a hill in the British Isles that is at least 150 meters (about 492 feet) tall. Housedon Hill's top is only about 7 kilometers (4 miles) from the Scottish border. The border runs to the north and west of the hill.
Exploring Housedon Hill
Housedon Hill is just outside the Northumberland National Park. For a long time, people did not have a legal way to walk on the hill. This has now changed!
Accessing the Hill
Today, the western side of Housedon Hill is open for public access. This means you can legally walk there, all the way to the top. This change happened because of a law called the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. This law created "access land" areas where people can explore.
The easiest way to climb Housedon Hill starts from a place called Housedonhaugh. This spot is on the southwest side of the hill. From there, you can use the new access rights to reach the summit.
Nature Around the Hill
The northwestern part of Housedon Hill is covered in forestry plantations. These are areas where trees have been planted. It makes for a green and interesting landscape.
