Howell Township is a community located in Livingston County, Michigan. It's a type of local government area called a civil township. In 2020, about 7,893 people lived here. This was more than the 6,702 people who lived here in 2010. Howell Township is right next to the city of Howell, but they are managed separately.

Geography of Howell Township
Howell Township is in the middle of Livingston County. It's on the north and west sides of the city of Howell. Howell city is the main town, also known as the county seat.
Roads and Travel
Interstate 96 (I-96) runs through the southern part of the township. You can get on I-96 from Exit 133, which is M-59. I-96 goes west about 33 miles (53 km) to Lansing. It goes southeast about 57 miles (92 km) to Detroit. M-59 goes east about 37 miles (60 km) to Pontiac.
Land and Water
Howell Township covers a total area of about 32.0 square miles (82.9 km²). Most of this area, about 31.8 square miles (82.4 km²), is land. A small part, about 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²), is water.
The eastern part of the township is in the Shiawassee River area. Water from here flows north towards Saginaw Bay. The western part of the township drains into the Red Cedar River. This river flows west to the Grand River and then into Lake Michigan.
