Hua Chenyu (born February 7, 1990) is a famous Chinese singer and songwriter. He is often called "Hua Hua" by his fans. He became well-known after winning the TV show Super Boy in 2013.
People love his strong voice, amazing stage shows, and unique musical talent. After he was on Singer 2018, many said he brought Chinese pop music to a new level. Hua Chenyu writes many of his own songs. These songs often share his thoughts about the world or tell parts of his own story. He likes to mix rock music into his songs. He doesn't want to be limited to just one type of music.

Early Life and Music
Hua Chenyu was born on February 7, 1990, in Zhushan County, Hubei province, China. He started playing the flute when he was five years old. By the fifth grade, he began taking piano lessons. He wrote his very first song when he was just twelve years old, after he became good at playing the piano.
After middle school, Hua moved to Wuhan by himself. He went to a special high school for fine arts. In 2010, he got into the Wuhan Conservatory of Music. There, he studied how to sing pop music. He also became the lead singer of a college rock band called Conseer.
Music Career Highlights
Becoming a Super Boy
In 2013, Hua Chenyu joined a TV talent show called Super Boy. This was just before he finished music school. For his first performance, he sang an original song with no words. This made some people call him a "Martian" because his style was so different.
Two of the judges thought he was strange. But the third judge, Laure Shang, saw his special talent. She sang a wordless duet with him and said, "He is a genius!" She believed he knew how to show feelings through music. Thanks to her, Hua moved on in the show. He later won the entire Super Boy contest on September 27, 2013.
After winning, Hua signed with a Chinese record company called EE-Media. His first song, "Me and Myself," came out in September 2013. He also went on a tour with other contestants, performing in many Chinese cities.
First Concerts and Album
In April 2014, Hua Chenyu traveled to Italy and Spain. He was filming a TV show called "Divas Hit the Road." This show was very popular and had high viewership. In June, he became the first Chinese ambassador for a Korean eyewear brand called ALO.
Less than a year after his debut, Hua announced his first big concert. It was called "Mars Concert" and was held in Beijing on September 6, 2014. All 10,000 tickets sold out in just two minutes! This was a new record for a Chinese singer of his age. Because so many people wanted to go, they added another concert on September 7, which also sold out quickly.
His first album, Quasimodo's Gift, was released on September 19, 2014. It quickly became the number one best-selling music album in China. The album had different styles like rock and folk. It didn't have songs about love. Instead, it showed the world through Hua's eyes. He wrote three of the ten songs on the album. The album's main idea was about being "small." He said, "Everyone doesn't need a vast space to live... as long as you are standing here, you exist."
The album Quasimodo's Gift won many awards. These included "Best Album" and "Most Popular Album."
Second Album Aliens
In 2015, Hua Chenyu performed at the Liaoning TV New Year Gala. His song "Shimmer" became a popular song for the TV drama "You Are My Sunshine." In February, he was invited by Billboard to attend the 57th Annual Grammy Awards as a special guest.
His 2015 Mars Concert was announced for August 1 in Shanghai. Nearly 10,000 tickets sold out in only 35 seconds! Over 160,000 people were online trying to buy them. This broke another record for online ticket sales in China. Because of the huge demand, two more shows were added on July 31 and August 2. This made him the first singer from mainland China to hold three concerts in a row at the same venue. His August 1 concert was watched online by 2.64 million people, setting a new record for online concert broadcasts.
His second album, "Aliens", was released in October 2015. The first 30,000 copies sold out almost immediately. The digital version sold over 100,000 copies in just eight minutes! The album sold 350,000 copies on its first day. The album's promotional video was even shown on a big screen in New York's Times Square. Hua wrote 7 of the 11 songs on this album. He wanted this album to feel "big" and "powerful." It was also the first time he included rap songs in his music.
Aliens also won many awards, including "Best Concept Album" and "Best Pop Album."
The Next and New Songs
From October 2016 to January 2017, Hua Chenyu was a mentor and judge on a TV show called The Next. On this show, new singers could challenge a celebrity mentor. The mentor had only 24 hours to prepare a song chosen by the challenger. Hua became very famous for his amazing rearrangements of songs. His version of "My Skateboard Shoes" was especially popular.
He held more Mars Concerts in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen in 2016. These concerts were watched online by over 4.3 million viewers.
Studying Abroad and TV Shows
In March 2017, Hua released his third album, H. The "H" stands for his family name. After filming The Next, he went to study at Berklee College of Music in the United States. He learned new singing and rapping skills. He also learned about the Pentatonic scale, which he started using in his own songs.
In June, Hua joined a TV travel show called Flowers on Trip. He traveled to countries like Morocco and Russia. In July, he became a brand ambassador for Estee Lauder China. He also became a judge on a new singing competition show called The Coming One.
The 2017 Mars Concerts were held in Beijing in October. One of the concerts was streamed live online and had over four million viewers. He continued as a judge on The Next for its second season.
Singer 2018 and "Bird Nest" Concert
In February 2018, Hua Chenyu joined the popular TV show Singer 2018. He had turned down the show for three years before finally joining. He competed against famous singers like Jessie J. Hua won first place in four episodes of the show. In the final, he came in second place, right after Jessie J. His self-written song "Heaven's Equal" won "Most Popular Song" on the show.
On September 8 and 9, 2018, Hua Chenyu held his Mars Concerts at the Beijing National Stadium. This stadium is huge, holding 90,000 people! Tickets sold out in just one minute. This made him the first Chinese singer born after 1990 to hold a concert there. He was also the first to hold two concerts in a row at that stadium.
New Music and Concerts (2019-2022)
In 2019, Hua Chenyu started his own studio, which works with EE-Media. He also continued to appear on TV shows like "Ace to Ace S4."
His 2019 Mars Concerts were first planned for Shenzhen but had to be moved. They were rescheduled to November 15-17 in Haikou, Hainan. During these concerts, he released five new songs he had written. Three of these songs, I Really Want to Love This World, Madhouse, and Conversations with ET, were part of a "Mars Trilogy." He said these songs were about mental health. His song "I Really Want to Love this World" sold over seven million copies online!
In January 2020, Hua Chenyu was the first performer at the HunanTV New Year's Eve concert. He also returned to Singer 2020, the final season of the series. He mostly sang his own songs and won the competition on April 24. This made him the only returning singer to win I Am a Singer.
In May 2020, the music video for his song "Bull Fight" was released. It took six months to make and used amazing special effects. Hua Chenyu released his fourth album, "New World," in April 2020. It was available as a USB and a CD. The digital sales of the album were very high, earning millions of dollars.
In 2021, Hua Chenyu returned as a host for "Ace VS Ace Season 6." He also held six Mars Concerts in Haikou. He released a new song at each concert. One song, "Flower in the Small Town," was written to remember his mother, who passed away that year. Other songs were about talking to strangers or dealing with anti-fans.
In September 2022, Hua held an online concert called "Music Chapter: Mars." It celebrated his nine years in music. The concert combined rock and pop with a symphony orchestra. It had over 200 million views and 871.5 million likes on TikTok! In December, he released his fifth album, "Hope," which included the songs from his 2021 concerts and five new ones.
Mars Concert Tours (2023-2024)
In 2023, Hua Chenyu started his Mars Concert tour. It was held in a "park festival" style in four cities. The stage was huge, 100 meters long and 70 meters wide! It had a giant ring for lights and special effects. The stage was designed by the team who worked on the Beijing Olympics. It was the biggest concert stage ever built in China. The concerts had an afternoon session with unplugged songs and games, and an evening session with amazing lights and effects.
In September 2023, he started the second part of his tour at the Beijing National Stadium. He used a four-sided stage for his stadium shows. He sang two new songs, "Sea of Wind" and "Ordinary to Extraordinary Life." Over 1 million fans attended his 2023 Mars Concert tour.
In 2024, Hua Chenyu continued his Mars Concert tour. He held a special "sunrise" concert on May 4 at Yangma Island, Yantai. The concert started at 3 AM and lasted three hours, until the sun rose from the sea. Around 130,000 fans watched the sunrise together. This event got a lot of media attention and was called the largest seaside sunrise concert in the world.
He also broke a record for mainland Chinese singers in Hong Kong. Around 100,000 fans attended his Hong Kong concerts in May 2024. He was the first mainland singer to hold an outdoor concert there, using his special 'Mars ring' stage.
His stadium tour continued in Nanchang in July 2024. The four-sided stage was upgraded with new LED screens and lights. His music team also added Chinese folk music instruments to many songs.
Personal Life
Hua Chenyu usually keeps his private life to himself. However, in January 2021, he shared that he has a daughter with another Chinese pop singer, Zhang Bichen. Hua Chenyu also has a pet cat named Perper.
