Hunza (princely state) facts for kids
Hunza (Urdu: ہنزہ) was once a small, independent area in the very northern part of Pakistan. Think of it like a mini-kingdom, called a princely state, that had its own ruler. Hunza existed as a separate state until 1974. After that, it became part of Pakistan.
Hunza was located in a beautiful, mountainous region known today as Gilgit-Baltistan. It shared its borders with several other places. To the south was the Gilgit Agency, and to the east was another princely state called Nagar. To the north, it bordered East Turkestan (which is now part of China), and to the northwest, it touched Afghanistan.
The main town and capital of Hunza was called Baltit. Today, this town is better known as Karimabad. The land that was once Hunza is now part of the Aliabad area, which is a division (called a Tehsil) within the Hunza-Nagar District of Pakistan.

What Was a Princely State?
A princely state was a territory in British India that was ruled by a local leader, often called a prince or a raja. These states were not directly governed by the British. Hunza was one such state.
