Syed Imad Wasim (Urdu: سید عماد وسیم حیدر), known as Imad Wasim, is a famous Pakistani cricketer. He is a left-handed all-rounder, meaning he is good at both batting and bowling. Imad is especially known for playing Twenty20 cricket. He has played for many teams around the world.
Imad was an important player for the Pakistan national cricket team. He helped Pakistan win the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. In 2018, the Pakistan Cricket Board gave him a special contract. He even captained Pakistan's One Day International (ODI) team for the first time in 2019. Imad announced he was leaving international cricket in November 2023. However, he changed his mind in March 2024 to play in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He played very well in that tournament. He announced his retirement again in December 2024.

About Imad Wasim
Imad Wasim was born in Swansea, Wales, on December 18, 1988. His father was an engineer who worked in England for a short time. Imad's family moved to Pakistan when he was very young. He grew up in Islamabad, where he also started his first-class cricket career.
Before becoming a cricketer, Imad was studying medicine. But he stopped his studies when he got the chance to play for the Pakistan under-19 cricket team. This shows how much he loved cricket!
Family Life
In August 2019, Imad Wasim married Sannia Ashfaq. Their wedding took place at the Shah Faisal Mosque in Islamabad. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in 2021. Their second child, a son, was born in 2022.
Imad's International Cricket Journey
Imad Wasim started his international career in 2015. He played his first Twenty20 International (T20I) match for Pakistan against Zimbabwe on May 24, 2015. This game was played in Lahore. Soon after, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Sri Lanka on July 19, 2015.
Key Achievements in International Cricket
In 2016, Imad made history. He became the first Pakistani spinner to take five wickets in a T20I match. He achieved amazing figures of 5 wickets for only 14 runs against the Windies. This was a big moment for him!
Imad was a regular player when Pakistan won the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. This was a huge win for the team. In the same year, he was named Pakistan's T20I Player of the Year. He also reached the top of the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20I bowling rankings.
In March 2019, Imad got a chance to lead the team. He captained Pakistan's ODI team for the first time against Australia. This happened because the regular captain, Shoaib Malik, was injured.
Playing in the Cricket World Cup
Imad was chosen for Pakistan's team in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He played very well in this big tournament. He scored 162 runs in 5 innings, showing his batting skills. He also took 2 wickets and bowled very economically.
As of April 2020, Imad was ranked third among all-rounders in ODI cricket by the ICC. He was also ranked seventh in T20I bowling. He continued to be an important player for Pakistan. He was part of the squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Retirement and Comeback
On March 23, 2024, Imad decided to come out of retirement from international cricket. He met with officials from the Pakistan Cricket Board. This decision was made so he could play in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in June 2024. His great performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 9) also helped him make this choice. He helped his team, Islamabad United, win the title for the third time.
In May 2024, he was officially named in Pakistan’s squad for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He had the best economy rate for Pakistan in that tournament. However, on December 13, 2024, Imad announced his retirement from international cricket for the second time.
Imad's Twenty20 Franchise Career
Imad Wasim is known as a specialist in Twenty20 (T20) cricket. He has played for many different T20 teams around the world.
Pakistan Super League (PSL)
In 2016, the Karachi Kings team picked Imad in their player draft. In 2017, he became the captain of the Karachi Kings. He was captain again in 2023. In 2023, he had a fantastic tournament with the bat, scoring 404 runs in just 10 matches. In 2024, he joined Islamabad United as a mentor. He is the only bowler to take five wickets in a Pakistan Super League final match.
