Syed Imad Wasim is a famous Pakistani cricketer. He played for the Pakistan national cricket team from 2015 to 2024. Imad is a left-handed player who is good at both batting and bowling. This makes him an all-rounder. He is known for being a specialist in Twenty20 cricket. He has played for many different teams around the world. Imad was an important part of the Pakistan team that won the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.
In 2018, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) gave him a special contract. This showed he was a key player. In March 2019, he led the Pakistan One Day International (ODI) team for the first time. Imad announced he was retiring from international cricket in November 2023. However, he changed his mind in March 2024 to play in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He was then picked for the team in May 2024. He had the best bowling economy rate for Pakistan in that tournament. Imad announced his retirement from international cricket again in December 2024.

His Early Life
Imad Wasim was born in Swansea, Wales, in 1988. His father worked as an engineer in England for a short time. Imad's parents moved to Pakistan when he was very young. He grew up in Islamabad and played all his early cricket there. He was studying to become a doctor before he became a cricketer. He stopped his studies when he got the chance to play for Pakistan's under-19 cricket team.
His Family
In August 2019, Imad Wasim married Sannia Ashfaq. Their wedding took place at the Shah Faisal Mosque in Islamabad. They welcomed their first child, a daughter, in 2021. Their second child, a son, was born in 2022.
Imad's Cricket Career
Playing for Pakistan
Imad Wasim started his international career in 2015. He played his first Twenty20 International match against Zimbabwe in Lahore on May 24, 2015. He then made his One Day International debut against Sri Lanka on July 19, 2015.
In 2016, he was chosen for the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 tournament. Later that year, he made history by taking 5 wickets for only 14 runs against the Windies. This was the first time a Pakistani spinner had done this in a T20 International match. Imad was a regular player in the Pakistan team that won the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. He also won the award for Pakistan's T20I Player of the Year in 2017. He was ranked as the top T20I bowler by the ICC that year.
In March 2019, Imad was part of Pakistan's ODI team playing against Australia. When the team captain, Shoaib Malik, was injured, Imad Wasim stepped in to lead the team. The next month, he was selected for Pakistan's squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He played very well in the tournament. He scored 162 runs and took 2 wickets.
In May 2024, he was again named in Pakistan’s team for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He had decided to come out of retirement for this tournament. This decision was made after he performed very well in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He helped his team, Islamabad United, win the title for the third time. On December 13, 2024, Imad announced his retirement from international cricket for the second time.
Playing for Teams Around the World
Imad Wasim is known as a Twenty20 specialist. This means he is very good at playing in the shorter, faster version of cricket.
In 2016, the Karachi Kings team picked him to play in the Pakistan Super League. He became their captain in 2017. He had a great season in 2023, scoring 404 runs. In 2024, he joined Islamabad United as a mentor. He is the only bowler to take five wickets in a Pakistan Super League final match.
