Imnaha is a small, quiet community in Oregon, United States. It's not a big city but a special place where two rivers meet. Imnaha is located in Wallowa County, right where Big Sheep Creek flows into the Imnaha River. It sits at an elevation of about 1,978 feet (603 meters) above sea level.
Imnaha is known as the easternmost settlement in the state of Oregon. You can reach it by taking Oregon Route 350. This road connects Imnaha to the town of Joseph, which is about 30 miles (48 km) to the west.
Imnaha is also famous as the starting point for visiting Hells Canyon. This is a very deep river gorge carved by the Snake River. From Imnaha, you can travel to the Hat Point scenic lookout, which offers amazing views of Hells Canyon.
The name Imnaha has a special meaning. It comes from a local Native American subchief named Imna. So, "Imnaha" means "land ruled over by Imna." The community's post office first opened its doors on January 4, 1885. However, the town itself wasn't officially set up until 1901, and its streets were planned out in 1902.
