Indian Paintbrush Book Award facts for kids
The Indian Paintbrush Book Award is a special prize given out every year to books that kids in Wyoming choose. Students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades get to nominate their favorite books and then vote on them. This exciting award first started in 1986. It is supported by the Wyoming Library Association and the Wyoming State Reading Council, helping to encourage young readers.
How Books Are Chosen for the Award
To be considered for the Indian Paintbrush Book Award, books must follow a few simple rules. These rules make sure that the nominated books are fresh and fair for everyone.
- The book can be either a story (fiction) or a book based on facts (nonfiction).
- It must have been published within the last two years. Also, it needs to still be available to buy.
- Any student can suggest a book they think deserves the award.
- A book cannot be nominated for the award two years in a row.
- If an author wins the award, their next book cannot be on the nomination list for the very next year. This helps other authors get a chance.
