Where the River Flows
The Indian River starts in an unnamed lake. This lake is in the southeast part of Algonquin Provincial Park. It's in a place called Master Township in Nipissing District.
River's Journey South
The river first flows north. Then, it turns southeast. This happens where a stream called Walker Creek joins it. This spot is about 500 meters from a railway point called Kathmore.
Following the Old Railway
From this point, the river valley was once used by a railway. This railway, called the Canadian National Railway Beachburg Subdivision, is now abandoned. It was originally built as a main line for the Canadian Northern Railway.
Through Towns and Parks
The river goes past a railway point called Dahlia. Then, it leaves Algonquin Provincial Park and Nipissing District. It enters Renfrew County in a municipality called Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards.
After flowing for about 1,100 meters, it enters another municipality, Laurentian Valley. Here, it reaches a place called Indian.
Roads and Final Destination
The river continues flowing east. It loops under Renfrew County Road 58. Then, it reaches the community of Alice.
It flows under Renfrew County Road 58 again. After that, it goes under Renfrew County Road 26 near Davis Mills. It also passes under Ontario Highway 17, which is part of the Trans-Canada Highway.
Finally, the Indian River enters the city of Pembroke. It meets the Muskrat River there. The Muskrat River then flows into the Ottawa River.
