Ingersoll Township is found in the southeastern part of Midland County. It shares its northern border with the city of Midland, which is the main city of the county. To the east and south, the township is next to Saginaw County.

The township covers about 36.6 square miles (about 94.8 square kilometers) in total. A small part of this area, about 0.1 square miles (0.3 square kilometers), is water. The Tittabawassee River, an important waterway, flows through the northeastern corner of the township.

Ingersoll Township is home to a couple of smaller communities. These are called "unincorporated communities." This means they do not have their own separate local government like a city or a village.

Laporte: A Historic Spot

Laporte is one of these communities. It is located about 8 miles (13 km) south-southeast of downtown Midland. This area first had a post office in January 1874. It was originally named Lee's Corner after a local landowner. The post office was renamed Laporte in April 1895. It closed in January 1910.

Poseyville: A Small Community

Poseyville is another small unincorporated community. It is about 5 miles (8 km) south of downtown Midland. A post office opened here in July 1898 and operated until January 1907.

The city of Midland, which borders the township to the north, has taken over a small area of land in the northeast corner of the township.
