Ionia is a small village located in the state of Missouri, USA. It's found partly in Benton County and partly in Pettis County. In 2020, about 71 people lived there.

History of Ionia

Ionia was first known as Ionia City. It was officially mapped out in 1866. A post office opened there in 1867, also called Ionia City. The name was later shortened to Ionia in 1895. People believe the village was named after the Ionic order, which is a style of architecture and also a term used in Freemasonry, a fraternal organization.

Geography of Ionia

Ionia is located right on the border between Pettis and Benton counties. You can find it along Missouri Route P, about 1.5 miles west of US Route 65. It's also about seven miles west-northwest of a town called Cole Camp.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village covers a total area of about 0.15 square miles (0.38 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.

In 2010, the village of Ionia had 88 people living there. These people made up 43 households and 23 families. The population density was about 587 people per square mile. There were 57 homes in the village.
