Isaac's is a popular chain of casual restaurants. It is known for its special sandwiches, salads, and wraps. What makes them unique is that many of their menu items are named after different birds!
The main office for Isaac's is in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. You can find their restaurants in many places around Pennsylvania. This includes Lancaster County, Chester County, Berks County, Dauphin County, York County, and Cumberland County. In 2014, the company had about 550 employees.
History of Isaac's Restaurants
Isaac's was started by two college friends, Phil Wenger and Isaac Williams. They met while studying at Eastern Mennonite University in Virginia. The very first Isaac's restaurant opened its doors in 1983. It was located at 44 N. Queen Street in downtown Lancaster.
Phil Wenger's father, Chester Wenger, loved watching birds. He was also an amateur ornithologist, which means he studied birds. To honor him, the founders decided to use a pink flamingo in their logo. They also named many of their sandwiches after birds, like the 'Mallard' and the 'Penguin Club'. If you prefer vegetarian options, those sandwiches are named after beautiful flowers!
In March 2017, Isaac's opened its 19th location. This one was a smaller, faster version called "Isaac's on the fly." It opened in downtown York, Pennsylvania. Later, in February 2019, the company moved its main office. It moved from Lancaster to Camp Hill to find a better location.
