Isabelle Fuhrman (born February 25, 1997) is an American actress. She became well-known for her role as Esther in the horror movie Orphan (2009) and its follow-up, Orphan: First Kill (2022). She also played Clove in the adventure film The Hunger Games (2012). More recently, she starred as Alex in The Novice (2021) and Diamond in the Western film series Horizon: An American Saga (2024–present).

Isabelle Fuhrman was born in Washington, D.C. Her mother, Elina Fuhrman, is a journalist and author. Her father, Nick Fuhrman, is a business consultant. Isabelle's mother is from Moldova, and her father has Irish roots.
Isabelle has an older sister. Her family moved to Atlanta in 1999. For high school, she went to the Buckley School in Sherman Oaks. She also studied acting briefly at the RADA in London. Isabelle graduated from Stanford University Online High School in 2015.
Isabelle Fuhrman's Acting Career
Isabelle Fuhrman started acting when she was seven years old. A casting director from Cartoon Network saw her and cast her in a show called Cartoon Fridays. She also appeared in TV commercials for brands like Pizza Hut. In 2007, she made her first movie appearance in Hounddog.
Breakthrough Role in Orphan
In 2008, Isabelle was cast in the movie Orphan. She played the main character, Esther, alongside Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard. The movie was released in 2009 and was very successful. People praised Isabelle's acting in the film. She also appeared in comedy skits on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
The Hunger Games and Other Projects
In 2011, Isabelle played Angie Vanderveer in the movie Salvation Boulevard. This film was shown at the Sundance Film Festival.
In 2012, Isabelle voiced a character named Victoria in the video game Hitman: Absolution. That same year, she played Clove in the movie The Hunger Games. Clove is a tough character who tries to defeat the main hero, Katniss. Isabelle had first tried out for the role of Katniss but was too young at 14. She later got the part of Clove.
In 2013, Isabelle was cast as Max in the movie Dear Eleanor (2016). In 2014, she joined the cast of Cell, a movie based on a book by Stephen King. In 2015, she had a recurring role as Tessa on the TV show Masters of ....
Recent Successes
In 2021, Isabelle starred as Alex in the movie The Novice. Her performance received great reviews, with some critics calling it "the year's best performance." For her role, she won the Tribeca Film Festival Award for Best Actress.
In 2020, it was announced that Isabelle would play Esther again in a new Orphan movie. This film, called Orphan: First Kill, came out in August 2022. Her acting was again highly praised.
In September 2022, Isabelle joined the cast of the Western film Horizon: An American Saga, directed by Kevin Costner. She is also set to star as Charlotte in the upcoming movie Wish You Were Here, which will be released in 2025.
Helping Others
Isabelle Fuhrman is involved in charity work. In 2010, she became an advocate for Save the Children's "Caps for Good" project. She helped knit baby caps to lower the death rate of newborns in developing countries. Isabelle is also on the advisory board of the Love & Art Kids Foundation, a non-profit group in Los Angeles.
