Island City is a small city located in Union County, Oregon, in the United States. It was officially formed in 1904. The city got its name because it used to be on a piece of land surrounded by the Grande Ronde River and a small stream called a slough. Later, the stream was moved, so the city is no longer on an island. In 2020, about 1,144 people lived there.

Life in Island City
Island City is a quiet community. In the past, a large plant that made particle board, a type of wood product, was located nearby. The Lighthouse Pentecostal Church is also in Island City and serves as a gathering place for many people.
Where is Island City Located?
Island City is found in northeastern Oregon. It sits right where two main roads, Oregon Route 82 and Oregon Route 237, meet. The city is just outside of a larger town called La Grande.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Island City covers a total area of about 0.98 square miles (2.55 square kilometers). All of this area is land, meaning there are no large lakes or rivers within the city limits.

During the 2010 census, there were 989 people living in Island City. These people made up 399 households, with 298 of them being families. The city had about 1,009 people per square mile (390 people per square kilometer).
Most of the people in Island City were White (94.7%). There were also small numbers of African American, Native American, Asian, and Pacific Islander residents. About 3.4% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
