Early Life and First Steps in Music
Ivan Dorn was born in Chelyabinsk, Russia, which was then part of the Soviet Union. When he was two years old, his family moved to the city of Slavutych in Ukraine. He started performing at age six at a local festival.
As a kid, Ivan was very active in sports and also learned to play the piano. He won several music competitions, which showed his early talent.
Career Highlights
From a Duo to a Solo Star
In 2006, Ivan met singer Anna Dobrydneva, and they formed a pop duo called «Para Normalnykh» ("A Pair of Normals"). The group became popular, but Ivan decided to go solo in 2010. He also started working as a TV host on the Ukrainian music channel M1.
His first solo album, "Co'N'Dorn," was released in 2012. It was a huge success in both Ukraine and Russia. People called him "an idol for a new generation" because of his modern and exciting music.
TV Shows and a Music Label
Dorn's popularity grew, and in 2014, he became a judge on the Ukrainian version of the TV show X Factor. Two years later, he was a coach on The Voice Ukraine.
In 2016, he started his own independent music label called Masterskaya. The label's goal is to help new and talented underground musicians from Ukraine share their music with a wider audience.
Acting Career
In 2021, Dorn starred in his first major film, Petrov's Flu. The movie was shown at the famous 2021 Cannes Film Festival. The director, Kirill Serebrennikov, praised him as a "wonderful dramatic artist." After the film, Dorn announced he wanted to focus more on his acting career.
Charity Work and Controversies

Dorn's career has sometimes been controversial because of the political conflict between Ukraine and Russia that began in 2014.
In 2014, he performed at a festival wearing a sweater with the coat of arms of Ukraine. This was praised by many in Ukraine. However, he continued to perform in Russia, which led to some criticism at home. It was later reported that he had donated money to help Ukrainians affected by the conflict.
In a 2017 interview, Dorn made some comments about the conflict that upset many Ukrainians. He called the War in Donbas a "quarrel" and referred to Ukraine and Russia as "younger and older brothers." Many felt these words did not take the situation seriously enough. Because of the controversy, one of his concerts in Odesa was canceled after threats of protest.
When Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Dorn publicly condemned it. He and his music label, Masterskaya, stopped their services in Russia. As a result, he was banned from performing in Russia.
Work in Africa
In 2018, Dorn traveled to Uganda to film a music video called "Afrika." He worked with a children's dance group called Masaka Kids Africana. This inspired him to start a charity project to build a dance school for the children in Uganda.
