Public Actions and Opinions

However, some in Russia suggested he should be banned from performing there. He was not banned and remained popular.

Some people in Ukraine criticized Ivan for continuing to perform in Russia. This was after a conflict started between the two countries in 2014. Later, it was reported that he had secretly given $10,000 to the Ukrainian army. This helped to ease some of the criticism. However, Ivan later said in an interview that he had donated money to help regular people affected by the conflict. He said a volunteer used some of that money for army supplies, which put him in a difficult spot. He also said he wore the Ukrainian symbol at the festival to avoid criticism from his own country.
