Jón Daði Böðvarsson (born May 25, 1992) is a professional football player from Iceland. He plays as a striker for Burton Albion, a team in League One in England. Jón Daði is also special because his grandparents, Þorsteinn frá Hamri and Ásta Sigurðardóttir, were famous writers in Iceland.

Jón Daði's Club Career
Jón Daði has played for many different football clubs throughout his career. Let's look at some of the teams he has been a part of.
Starting at Selfoss
Jón Daði started his senior football journey in 2009 with Selfoss in Iceland. His team was in the second division. He scored 20 goals, helping his team get promoted to the top league in Iceland.
In 2011, he spent four months playing for the youth team of Aarhus in Denmark. After that, he returned to Selfoss. Even though Selfoss had been moved back down to the second division, Jón Daði helped them get promoted again in 2011.
Playing for Viking
After scoring more goals in the top Icelandic league, Jón Daði moved to Viking, a Norwegian team, in November 2012.
Time at Kaiserslautern
Jón Daði played for three seasons in Norway. He scored 15 goals before moving to Germany. In January 2016, he joined 1. FC Kaiserslautern, a team in Germany's second division. He had already agreed to this move in June 2015. He played his first game for Kaiserslautern on February 5, 2016.
Joining Wolverhampton Wanderers
On August 2, 2016, Jón Daði signed with Wolverhampton Wanderers, an English team in the Championship. He scored his first goal for the club in his very first game on August 6, 2016. This also made him the 1,000th player to play a league game for Wolves! He scored two more goals for Wolves before leaving in 2017.
Moving to Reading
Even though fans liked him at Wolves, Jón Daði moved to Reading, another English Championship team, on July 14, 2017. He scored his first goal for Reading in August 2017. On January 16, 2018, he scored his first hat-trick (three goals in one game) for Reading during an FA Cup match.
Playing for Millwall
On July 12, 2019, Jón Daði joined Millwall, another Championship club. He scored his first two goals for Millwall in an EFL Cup game on August 27, 2019.
Time at Bolton Wanderers
On January 20, 2022, Jón Daði signed an 18-month contract with Bolton Wanderers, a team in League One. He helped Bolton win the 2023 EFL Trophy Final on April 2, 2023, even though he missed the final game due to injury. He still received a medal because he played in earlier matches. On December 2, 2023, he scored another hat-trick, this time in an FA Cup game against Harrogate Town. He left Bolton Wanderers in June 2024.
Short Spell at Wrexham
On October 25, 2024, Böðvarsson signed a short-term deal with Wrexham.
Joining Burton Albion
On January 16, 2025, Böðvarsson moved to Burton Albion, another League One club. He scored a goal in his very first game for Burton Albion on January 21, 2025.
Jón Daði's International Career
Jón Daði has also played for his home country, Iceland, at different levels.
He played for Iceland's under-19 and under-21 teams. His first game for the senior Iceland national team was on November 14, 2012. He scored his first goal for Iceland on September 9, 2014, in a game against Turkey. This was during the qualifying games for the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament.
Jón Daði was chosen to play for Iceland in the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament. This was the first time Iceland had ever qualified for such a big international football event! He played in all five of Iceland's matches. He even scored a goal in the game against Austria, which helped Iceland move forward from the group stage.
On June 27, 2016, Jón Daði played against England in the Euro 2016 round of 16. Iceland surprised everyone by winning 2-1 and moving on to the quarter-finals!
Böðvarsson was also part of Iceland's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
