Ja'Marr Anthony Chase (born March 1, 2000) is a professional American football player. He plays as a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals in the National Football League (NFL).
Before joining the NFL, Ja'Marr played college football for the LSU Tigers. He was a star player, winning the Fred Biletnik Award and helping his team win the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship in 2019.
The Bengals chose him as the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. He was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He also set a rookie record for receiving yards in a single game. In 2024, Ja'Marr became the fifth player in the Super Bowl era to win the receiving triple crown. This means he led the league in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.

Early Life and High School Football
Ja'Marr Chase grew up in Harvey, Louisiana. He went to Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, Louisiana. This area is a suburb of New Orleans.
During his high school career, he caught 115 passes. He gained 2,152 yards and scored 30 touchdowns. Experts rated him as a top player. He was the 84th best recruit in the nation. He was also the 15th best receiver prospect. Ja'Marr first planned to play for the University of Kansas. Then he committed to the University of Florida. Finally, he decided to play college football at Louisiana State University (LSU).
College Football Career

Ja'Marr started playing for LSU in 2018 as a freshman. He played in all 14 games that season. He started in eight of those games. He finished his first year with 23 catches for 313 yards. He also scored three touchdowns.
In 2019, Ja'Marr became a full-time starter. He led all college players in receiving yards with 1,780 yards. He caught 84 passes and scored 20 receiving touchdowns. His 20 touchdowns set a new record for the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He had six games where he gained over 100 yards. In three games, he gained over 200 yards. This included a record-setting 221 yards in the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship game against Clemson. LSU finished that year undefeated. They won the national championship.
After the regular season, Ja'Marr won the Fred Biletnik Award. This award goes to the best receiver in college football. He was also named a unanimous All-American. This means he was chosen by all major groups as one of the best players.

Professional NFL Career
Joining the Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals picked Ja'Marr Chase fifth overall in the 2021 NFL draft. This reunited him with his college quarterback, Joe Burrow. He was the first player in Bengals history to wear the number 1 jersey. This was his number in college. Ja'Marr signed a four-year contract worth $30.8 million on June 2, 2021.
Rookie Season (2021)
Ja'Marr played his first regular season game on September 12, 2021. It was against the Minnesota Vikings. He gained 102 receiving yards and scored a touchdown. The Bengals won the game. He scored three more touchdowns in his next two games. This made him the youngest player in NFL history to score four touchdowns in his first three games. He was named NFL Rookie of the Month for September.
In Week 7, against the Baltimore Ravens, Ja'Marr gained 201 receiving yards. This included an 82-yard touchdown. The Bengals won 41–17. He earned his first AFC Offensive Player of the Week award. In the playoffs, Ja'Marr continued to shine. He had 116 receiving yards in the Wild Card game. In the Divisional Round, he had 109 receiving yards. This made him the youngest player in NFL history with multiple 100-yard receiving games in a single postseason. The Bengals reached Super Bowl LVI. Ja'Marr had 89 yards in the Super Bowl, but the Bengals lost. His 368 postseason receiving yards set a new rookie record.
Second Season (2022)
In Week 1 of the 2022 season, Ja'Marr caught ten passes for 129 yards. He scored a game-tying touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In Week 6, he had 132 yards and two touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints. During this game, he suffered a small hip injury. He still played the next week, gaining 130 yards and two touchdowns. He then missed five weeks due to the injury.
Ja'Marr returned in Week 13. He was selected for the Pro Bowl for the second year in a row. Even with the injury, he led the team in catches (87) and receiving yards (1,046). In the playoffs, he helped the Bengals win against the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills.
Third Season (2023)
Ja'Marr started the 2023 season with lower yardage in the first two games. In Week 3, he bounced back with 12 catches for 141 yards against the Los Angeles Rams. After a game in Week 4, he famously said, "I'm open, I'm always f***ing open." The next week, he had one of his best games. He gained 192 yards and scored three touchdowns on 15 catches. This set a new Bengals record for catches in a single game. He won AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
In Week 13, Ja'Marr had 149 yards and a 76-yard touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars. During this game, he passed 1,000 receiving yards for the third straight season. He injured his shoulder in Week 15 and missed the next game. He finished the season with 100 catches for 1,216 yards and seven touchdowns. He earned Pro Bowl honors for the third year in a row.
Fourth Season (2024)
On April 24, 2024, the Bengals kept Ja'Marr on his contract for another year. He wanted a new, longer contract. He started the season as the main wide receiver. He also signed a deal with 7-Eleven. This deal used his slogan "Always Open."
He scored his first touchdown of the 2024 season in Week 3. He finished that game with two touchdowns and 118 yards. In Week 5, he had 193 yards and two touchdowns against the Ravens. In Week 10, he had an amazing game with 11 catches, 264 yards, and three touchdowns. He became the first NFL player to have multiple games with over 250 receiving yards and two or more touchdowns. Contract Extension (2025)
On March 18, 2025, Ja'Marr Chase signed a big new contract. It was a four-year deal worth $161 million with the Bengals. At that time, it made him the highest-paid non-quarterback player in NFL history.
