Ja'Marr Anthony Chase (born March 1, 2000) is an American professional football wide receiver. He plays for the Cincinnati Bengals in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the LSU Tigers. There, he won the Fred Biletnikoff Award and a national championship.
The Bengals picked him fifth overall in the 2021 NFL draft. Chase was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He also set a rookie record for receiving yards in one game. He helped his team reach Super Bowl LVI. In 2024, Chase became one of only five players to win the receiving triple crown. This means he led the league in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.

Early Life and High School Football
Ja'Marr Chase grew up in Harvey, Louisiana. He went to Archbishop Rummel High School near New Orleans. During his high school career, he caught 115 passes. He gained 2,152 yards and scored 30 touchdowns.
He was a highly rated player coming out of high school. He was ranked as the 84th best recruit in the nation. After thinking about other colleges, Chase decided to play college football at Louisiana State University (LSU).
College Football Career

In 2018, Chase started his college career at LSU. As a freshman, he played in all 14 games. He caught 23 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns.
In 2019, Chase had an amazing season. He led all college players with 1,780 receiving yards. He also caught 84 passes and scored 20 touchdowns. His 20 touchdowns set a new record for the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He had six games with over 100 yards. In three games, he gained over 200 yards. This included a record-setting 221 yards in the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship game. LSU finished the year undefeated and won the national championship.
After the season, Chase received the Fred Biletnikoff Award. This award goes to the best receiver in college football. He was also named a unanimous All-American.
Before the 2020 season, Chase decided not to play. He chose to focus on preparing for his NFL career. This decision allowed him to avoid injuries and get ready for the professional draft. NFL rules require players to be out of high school for three years before being drafted.

2021 Season: Rookie Year Success
Chase played his first NFL game on September 12, 2021. He had 101 receiving yards and a touchdown. The Bengals won the game. He quickly scored three more touchdowns in his next two games. This made him the youngest NFL player to catch four touchdowns in his first three games.
He was named NFL Rookie of the Month for September. In Week 7, he had 201 receiving yards against the Baltimore Ravens. This included an 82-yard touchdown. He set an NFL record for most receiving yards in a player's first seven games (754 yards). In December, he was chosen for the 2022 Pro Bowl.
In Week 17, Chase had an amazing game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He gained 266 receiving yards and scored three touchdowns. This helped the Bengals win their division. His 266 yards set a Bengals team record. It also set an NFL record for most receiving yards by a rookie in one game. Chase finished his rookie season with 81 catches for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns.
In the playoffs, Chase continued to shine. He helped the Bengals win their first playoff game since 1990. He became the youngest player in NFL history with multiple 100-yard receiving games in a single postseason. He helped the Bengals reach Super Bowl LVI. In the Super Bowl, he caught 5 passes for 89 yards. His 368 postseason receiving yards set a new rookie record.
2022 Season: Second Pro Bowl Selection
In Week 1 of the 2022 season, Chase caught 10 passes for 129 yards. He scored a game-tying touchdown late in the game. He suffered a hip injury in Week 6 but still had 132 yards and two touchdowns. He missed four games due to the injury. Despite this, he was still chosen for the Pro Bowl for the second year in a row.
2023 Season: Breaking Records Again
Chase started the 2023 season with 70 yards in two games. In Week 3, he bounced back with 12 catches for 141 yards. The Bengals won that game. The next week, he had his second-best performance ever. He caught 15 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns against the Arizona Cardinals. This set a new Bengals record for most catches in a single game. He was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
He injured his back in Week 9 but still played the next week. He gained 124 yards and scored a touchdown. In Week 13, he had 11 catches for 149 yards. He also scored a 76-yard touchdown. During this game, Chase reached over 1,000 receiving yards for the third straight season. He injured his shoulder in Week 15 and missed a game. He finished the season with 100 catches for 1,216 yards and seven touchdowns. He earned Pro Bowl honors for the third year in a row.
2024 Season: Continued Success
On April 24, 2024, the Bengals decided to keep Chase for another year by picking up his contract option.
