20 May 1992 | birth_place =} Jack Gleeson (born May 20, 1992) is an Irish actor. He is best known for his role as Joffrey Baratheon in the famous HBO TV series Game of Thrones (from 2011 to 2014). After this big role, Jack took a break from acting. Since then, he has acted in independent plays and a BBC miniseries called Out of Her Mind in 2020. He also appeared in the Irish thriller movie In the Land of Saints and Sinners.

Early life and education
Jack Gleeson was born in Cork, Ireland. He grew up in Ranelagh, Dublin. He went to Gonzaga College there. Jack has two older sisters, Rachel and Emma. They are also involved in Irish theatre. When he was young, Jack took drama classes with his sisters. He also performed in youth theatre.
Jack was part of the Independent Theatre Workshops (ITW) in Clonskeagh.
From 2010 to 2015, Jack Gleeson studied at Trinity College Dublin. He learned about philosophy and theology. In 2012, he was chosen as a scholar at the university. At Trinity, Jack was a member of DU Players. This is where he met the people who would later start the Collapsing Horse Theatre Company with him.
Acting career
Jack Gleeson started acting when he was 8 years old. His first roles were in movies like Reign of Fire (2002) and Batman Begins (2005). He also appeared in Shrooms (2007) and A Shine of Rainbows (2009). In 2010, he had a main role in the film All Good Children. A reviewer from Variety magazine called Jack "the pic's big discovery."
Jack became very well known for playing Joffrey Baratheon in the HBO series Game of Thrones. He said that Joaquin Phoenix's acting as Commodus in the movie Gladiator (2000) helped him with his own performance.
In 2012, Jack said he planned to stop acting after Game of Thrones to focus on his studies. In 2014, he did retire from acting after finishing his work on the show. Later, in an interview, he mentioned that he had changed his mind about a full academic career.
During the 2010s, Jack was a member of the Collapsing Horse Theatre Company in Dublin. He was also a founder and producer for this company. He was in the first play by the company, Monster / Clock. This was a children's theatre show that started in Dublin in 2012. He then appeared in the company's comedy show Bears in Space. This show premiered in Dublin in July 2014. It was also part of the 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The show was well-liked and had more performances in Dublin and London in 2015. It also played off-Broadway in New York in September 2016. The Collapsing Horse company closed in November 2019.
In 2019, Jack Gleeson made two public appearances. In June, he was part of a musical-comedy show called AMUSICAL. This was at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs comedy festival in Kilkenny, Ireland. In August, he made a surprise appearance at a wrestling event in Dublin. He played a good guy character, called "TV's Jack Gleeson."
In 2020, Jack Gleeson returned to television. He appeared in Sara Pascoe's series Out of Her Mind.
Personal life
Jack Gleeson lives in Dublin. He used to live in London. On August 27, 2022, he married his long-time girlfriend, Róisín O'Mahony. They had a small Catholic ceremony in County Kerry.
