Jackson is located along the Warrego Highway, which is a major road. This highway runs through the town from east to west.
The Western Railway Line also goes through Jackson. There used to be a train station here, but it's not used anymore.

How Jackson Got Its Name
The town of Jackson is named after a person called John Woodward Wyndham Jackson. He worked with timber in a nearby area around 1887. Later, he became a police magistrate in a town called Mackay.
Jackson's Old Post Office
Jackson had its own Post Office, which opened in July 1908. Before that, there was a smaller "receiving office" from 1887. The Post Office served the community for many years before it closed in 1988.
The Story of Jackson State School
Jackson Provisional School first opened its doors on January 18, 1892. It later became Jackson State School on January 1, 1909. This school taught children for 91 years! It closed down on December 9, 1983. The old school was located on Edward Street.
The Old Play Shed and Pioneer Tribute
In 2002, a local resident named Ella Robinson had a great idea. She asked the local council to move the old play shed from the closed Jackson State School. This play shed was built way back in 1908!
Ella wanted to move it to the center of town. Her idea was to use it as a bus stop for people traveling on long-distance coaches.
In 2012, something special happened. Many information panels were put inside the old play shed. These panels tell the story of Jackson's history. They also honor the early settlers, called pioneers, who helped build this rural community.
A big ceremony was held on November 10, 2012. About 120 people came to see the new panels. Bruce Scott, who was a Member of Parliament for the area, officially opened the display. This special place is now known as Jackson's "Tribute to Pioneers." It's even mentioned in travel guides as an interesting place to visit in Jackson!

In 2006, about 171 people lived in Jackson. By 2016, the population was 57 people. The most recent count in 2021 showed that 55 people live in the locality of Jackson.
