James Reynolds (born August 10, 1946) is an American actor. He is famous for playing Abe Carver on the TV show Days of Our Lives. He even won a big award, the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, in 2018 for his acting!

Early Life and Education

James Reynolds was born in Oskaloosa, Kansas on August 10, 1946. When he was in Oskaloosa High School (Kansas), he was a great football player. He was even named an All-State player!

After high school, James joined the Marines. He worked as a reporter for a newspaper called the Windward Marine while stationed in Hawaii. Later, he served in Vietnam for almost a year.

When he returned to the U.S., James went to Washburn University in Topeka. He studied prelaw and journalism. He started acting in plays because he heard it was a good way to meet people.

He soon found out he loved acting! He performed in many musicals and plays at his university. He also acted with local theater groups.

Acting Career

James Reynolds started playing the character of Abe Carver on the TV show Days of Our Lives in 1981. He has played this role ever since! He has been a main actor on the show since 1981.

He only took two short breaks in 1991 and 2003. Even then, he still appeared on the show sometimes. He is the only actor who has ever played Abe Carver. Before Days of Our Lives, he was in the TV series Time Express in 1979.

In 1991, James left Days of Our Lives for a short time. He joined a new show called Generations. On this show, he played a powerful business owner named Henry Marshall.

His strong acting in Generations earned him an Emmy nomination. This was for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. When Generations ended, James was asked to come back to Days of Our Lives. His character, Abe Carver, became the Chief of Police in Salem, the town where the show takes place.

Personal Life

One of James Reynolds' proudest achievements is being on the Kansas Historical Society's list of famous Kansans. This list includes important people like President Dwight Eisenhower and Amelia Earhart.

He married Laura Toffenetti on September 30, 1978. They had a son named Jed on October 27, 1979. They later divorced on July 19, 1984. James married his second wife, Lissa Layng, on December 21, 1985.
