Jasmine Paolini (born January 4, 1996) is a professional tennis player from Italy. She is one of the top Italian female tennis players. The WTA ranks her highly in both singles and doubles.

Jasmine is a Grand Slam champion in doubles. She won the doubles title at the 2025 French Open with her partner Sara Errani. She also won an Olympic gold medal in doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, also with Sara Errani.

Paolini has won three singles titles and nine doubles titles on the WTA Tour. This includes two singles and four doubles titles at the important WTA 1000 tournaments. She has also reached the finals of major tournaments three times. This includes the singles and doubles finals at the 2024 French Open and the singles final at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. She helped the Italian team win the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup title.

About Jasmine Paolini

Early Life and Training

Jasmine Paolini was born in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Italy. She grew up in Tuscany, between the towns of Carrara and Forte dei Marmi. Her father, Ugo, is Italian. Her mother, Jacqueline, has Polish and Ghanaian family roots. Her older brother, William, also plays tennis.

Jasmine started playing tennis when she was five years old in 2001. Her father and uncle introduced her to the sport. She trained at the Mirafiume Tennis Club in Bagni di Lucca. When she was 15, in 2011, she moved to Tirrenia to train more seriously.

Junior Career Highlights

In January 2013, Jasmine won her only junior tennis title. This was at the J4 Wilson ITF Junior Classic in Bergheim. She played in her first Junior Grand Slam tournament at the US Open that same year. She reached the third round in singles. She also made it to the third round of the Australian Open in January 2014.

Starting Her Professional Journey (2015–2017)

In May 2015, Paolini got a special chance to play in the main part of a doubles tournament. This was at the Italian Open. She played with Nastassja Burnett, but they lost in the first round.

In June 2017, Paolini won her first big title, called a 100k title, in Marseille. She then made her first appearance in a WTA Tour singles match. This was at the 2017 Swedish Open, but she lost in the first round.

Breaking into the Top 100 (2018–2020)

In April 2018, Paolini won her first match on the WTA Tour. This happened at the 2018 Copa Colsanitas. The next month, she reached her first WTA quarterfinal at the 2018 J&T Banka Prague Open.

In May 2019, she played in her first WTA 1000 singles tournament at the Italian Open. Later that month, she qualified for her first Grand Slam tournament, the 2019 French Open. She reached the quarterfinals at the Palermo Ladies Open. After reaching a final in Tokyo in November 2019, Paolini reached a new career-high ranking of world No. 96. She was the first Italian woman to enter the top 100 since 2012.

In 2020, Paolini played in the main draws of the Australian Open and the US Open. She won her first match at a major tournament at the 2020 French Open. She also won her first doubles match at a major event there.

First WTA Titles (2021)

In February 2021, Paolini reached her first WTA 500 third round at the 2021 Gippsland Trophy. She then reached her first WTA 125 final in Saint-Malo. In June, she won her first WTA 125 title at the 2021 Bol Open. The next month, she won her first WTA Tour doubles title at the 2021 Hamburg European Open, playing with Jil Teichmann.

At the Summer Olympics, Paolini played for Italy in both singles and doubles. In September, she won her first career singles title at the Slovenia Open in Portorož. The following month, she reached her first WTA 1000 third round at the Indian Wells Open.

Reaching Top 50 and First Top-10 Win (2022)

In 2022, Paolini and her partner Sara Errani reached the doubles final at the Melbourne Summer Set 1. After the 2022 Australian Open, Paolini entered the WTA top 50 rankings for the first time. She reached the third round at the Indian Wells Open. There, she beat the second-ranked player, Aryna Sabalenka, which was her first win against a top-10 player.

Paolini reached two WTA 250 quarterfinals in Palermo and Warsaw. She also reached her second WTA final at the Transylvania Open. She ended her season by winning another 100k title.

Paolini's 2023 season started slowly. However, she won her second WTA 125 title in May at the 2023 Firenze Ladies Open. In July, she reached the final at the Palermo Ladies Open.

Paolini qualified for the Cincinnati Open, where she reached the quarterfinals. The next month, she reached her first WTA 1000 doubles semifinal in Guadalajara.

At the China Open, Paolini reached the third round in singles. After this, she reached a new career-high ranking of No. 31. She also became the No. 1 Italian female tennis player. At the Zhengzhou Open, she reached the semifinals. The following week, she reached the final of the Jasmin Open in both singles and doubles. She and Sara Errani won the doubles title there.

In November, Paolini and Team Italy reached the final of the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup finals. They played well but lost to Team Canada in the final.

Major Finals and Olympic Gold (2024)

At the Australian Open, Paolini reached the fourth round of a major tournament for the first time. She then reached a new career-high ranking of 24.

In February, playing with Sara Errani, she won the doubles title at the Linz Open. In Dubai, Paolini reached her first WTA 1000 final. She won the title, which was her first WTA 1000 singles title. This win moved her into the top 15 rankings.

At the Indian Wells Open, Paolini reached the fourth round. She reached a new career-high ranking of No. 13 after a quarterfinal appearance at the Porsche Grand Prix. After a fourth-round run in Madrid, she rose to No. 12.

Partnering with Sara Errani, Paolini reached the doubles final at the Italian Open. They won her first WTA 1000 doubles title there. As a result, she entered the top 25 in doubles. Seeded 12th at the French Open, Paolini reached a major quarterfinal for the first time. She then upset a top-five player to reach her first major final, but she lost to Iga Świątek. With Errani, she also reached the doubles final, but they lost.

Paolini, seeded seventh, reached the final at Wimbledon. She became the first Italian woman to reach the Wimbledon semifinals in the Open Era. She was also the first woman since 2016 to reach both the French Open and Wimbledon finals in the same year. Paolini lost in the final. After her great performance, she reached a new career-high ranking of world No. 5.

At the 2024 Summer Olympics, she was upset in the third round of singles. However, in doubles, she and Errani won the gold medal. They defeated Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider in the final.

In October, Paolini and Errani won the doubles title at the China Open. Paolini reached the top 10 in doubles at world No. 9. She became the only active player at the time to be ranked in the top 10 in both singles and doubles. In singles, she reached a new career-high ranking of world No. 4. This tied the record for the highest-ranked Italian singles female player.

Aged 28, Paolini made her debut at the WTA Finals in November. She won her first match but did not advance to the semifinals. Partnering with Sara Errani, she also played in the doubles but did not advance.

At the Billie Jean King Cup finals in Spain, Paolini helped Team Italy win their quarterfinal match against Japan. Italy then faced Poland in the semifinals. Paolini and Sara Errani won the deciding doubles match to secure a spot in the final. She then won her singles match in the final, helping Italy win the title against Slovakia.

In December, Paolini and Errani were named WTA Doubles Team of the Year.

Rome Champion and French Open Doubles Title (2025)

Paolini and Sara Errani won their third WTA 1000 doubles title together at Doha. The following week, she played in the Dubai Championship. She had to withdraw from the doubles due to an ankle injury.

At the Miami Open in March, Paolini reached the semifinals. In April, she reached the semifinals at the Stuttgart Open. Paolini changed tennis coaches around this time, joining Marc López.

In May, Paolini won the Italian Open singles title. She had never gone beyond the second round there before. She became the second Italian woman to win this tournament in the Open Era. Paolini also won the doubles title at the Italian Open, defending the title from the previous year. She became the first Italian woman to win both singles and doubles titles at the tournament in the same year since 1985.

At the French Open, she and Sara Errani won their first major tournament doubles trophy. In singles, she reached the fourth round.

Moving onto the grass-court season, Paolini and Errani were runners-up at the Berlin Tennis Open. The following week, she reached the semifinals at the Bad Homburg Open. Paolini played at Wimbledon, winning her first match before losing in the second round.

Jasmine Paolini plays with a strong and active style. She hits powerful shots from the back of the court, called groundstrokes. She uses a lot of topspin on her forehand shot. Her backhand shot is hit flat. She is 1.63 meters (about 5 feet 4 inches) tall. She has said she wishes she was taller to serve better.
