Serving in the U.S. House of Representatives
Becoming a Representative
Jason Crow decided to run for Congress in 2017. He wanted to represent Colorado's 6th congressional district. In 2018, he won the election against the person who had held the seat for a long time, Mike Coffman. This made him the first Democrat to represent the district since it was created in 1983.
He was re-elected for his second term in 2020. He won by a large number of votes. In 2022, he won his third term. The district boundaries had changed, which helped him gain more support from voters in urban areas.
What He Does in Congress
Jason Crow has sponsored many bills, mostly about military and foreign affairs. He is known for being a Democrat who sometimes agrees with more moderate ideas.
During the January 6 United States Capitol attack, Crow was among a group of representatives who were stuck inside the Capitol building. He said he went into "combat mode" to protect himself and others. A famous photo showed him holding the hand of another representative who was upset.
In July 2024, Crow was named to a special group of lawmakers. This group was formed to investigate the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.
In May 2025, some people protested against Crow in Denver. They were concerned because he had accepted money for his campaigns from a company that works with the Israel Defense Forces during the Gaza war.
His Committee Roles
In the 118th Congress, Jason Crow serves on important committees:
- Committee on Foreign Affairs: This committee deals with how the U.S. interacts with other countries. He is a top member on the Subcommittee on Oversight and Accountability.
- Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence: This committee looks at information gathered by U.S. intelligence agencies.
Groups He Belongs To
Crow is also part of several groups in Congress, called caucuses. These groups focus on specific topics:
- Black Maternal Health Caucus: Works on improving health for Black mothers.
- New Democrat Coalition: A group of moderate Democrats.
- For Country Caucus: Focuses on national service.
- Rare Disease Caucus: Supports people with rare diseases.
His Views on Important Issues
Foreign Policy
During the Russo-Ukrainian War, Crow supported giving F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. He also voted to show support for Israel after the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel. Later, during the Gaza war, he expressed concern about the situation in Gaza and asked President Biden to encourage Israel to change its approach to the conflict.
Gun Control
Crow supports making changes to gun laws. He voted for a bill that would require background checks for gun buyers, even from private sellers. He also supports a ban on certain types of guns called assault weapons.
Impeachment
In 2019, Crow was one of seven new lawmakers who wrote an article supporting an impeachment inquiry against Donald Trump. He believed it was important to investigate the matter carefully. In 2020, he was chosen as one of the seven managers who presented the case against President Trump during his first impeachment trial in the Senate.
LGBT Rights
Jason Crow supports same-sex marriage and laws that protect LGBT people from discrimination. He supported ending the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy, which used to prevent openly gay people from serving in the military. He also opposed the ban on transgender people serving in the military and supported the Equality Act.
Campaign Finance
Crow has chosen not to accept money from corporate political action committees (PACs) for his campaigns. He supports a bill called the For the People Act of 2019. This bill aims to make elections fairer by ending unfair voting district maps and making it easier for people to register to vote. It also tries to stop "dark money" in politics, which is money from unknown sources.
Personal Life
Jason Crow and his former wife, Deserai, have two children.
