Jason Furman (born August 18, 1970) is an American economist and a professor at Harvard University. He teaches at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. An economist studies how people and countries make choices about money and resources.
From 2013 to 2017, Jason Furman was the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA). This is a group of experts who give economic advice to the President of the United States. He was chosen for this important role by President Barack Obama. Before that, he also worked as an advisor for Obama's 2008 presidential campaign.
Today, he also teaches economics at Harvard. He is involved with many important groups that study economic policy. He also writes articles for newspapers and books about the economy.

Early life and education
Jason Furman grew up in New York City. His father, Jay Furman, worked in real estate. His mother, Gail Furman, was a child psychologist. Jason also has a brother, Jesse M. Furman, who is a judge.
He finished high school in 1988. Then, he went to Harvard University. His roommate during his first year was the famous actor Matt Damon. After Harvard, he studied at the London School of Economics. He later returned to Harvard to earn his master's and PhD degrees in economics.
Early career in government
In 1996, while still a student, Furman worked for the Council of Economic Advisers. He later worked at the World Bank. The World Bank helps countries around the world with their economic development.
He also worked for President Bill Clinton as a special assistant. Furman was involved in several presidential campaigns, helping to shape economic plans. He also helped to stop a plan to change how Social Security works. Social Security is a program that helps retired people and others.
Before joining the Obama administration, Furman taught at several universities. He also worked at the Brookings Institution. This is a research group that creates ideas for economic policy.
Working with President Obama
In 2008, Jason Furman became the Economic Policy Director for Barack Obama's presidential campaign. When Obama became president, Furman worked as a deputy director at the National Economic Council.
In this role, he helped create the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. This was a plan to help the economy recover during a tough time. He also helped design the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. This law aimed to make healthcare more affordable for many Americans.
On June 10, 2013, President Obama chose Furman to lead the Council of Economic Advisers. Obama called him "one of the most brilliant economic minds." As chairman, Furman advised the president on many economic topics. These included taxes, business competition, and new technologies like artificial intelligence. He also attended important meetings with the President's Cabinet.
Personal life
Jason Furman lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is married to Eve Gerber. They have three children together.
