Jason Omar Holder, born on November 5, 1991, is a talented cricketer from Barbados. He used to be the captain of the West Indies cricket team. He's an amazing all-rounder who bowls right-arm medium-fast and plays in all three types of cricket games: Test, ODI, and T20I.
In January 2019, he was ranked the number one all-rounder in Test cricket by the ICC. Cricket West Indies named him Test Player of the Year in August 2019. In April 2021, he was chosen as one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year. Jason Holder is the first male West Indian cricketer to take a hat-trick in a T20 International game. He is also the fifth West Indian to achieve both 2,000 runs and 100 wickets in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He is the second West Indian, after Sir Garfield Sobers, to get both 2,500 runs and 150 wickets in Test matches. Holder was part of the West Indies team that won the 2016 T20 World Cup.

Playing for Cricket Clubs
Jason Holder has played for many different cricket clubs around the world. Just a few days after he started playing international cricket in 2013, the Chennai Super Kings picked him up for the IPL. In 2014, the Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him. They even let him bat higher up in the order, showing how much they trusted his batting skills.
In 2016, the Kolkata Knight Riders bought him. He later rejoined the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2020. He also played for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club in England in 2019. In July 2020, he joined the Barbados Royals team for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League.
In 2022, the Lucknow Super Giants bought him for a large sum of money in the IPL auction. He then played for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023 season. He was also named captain for the Los Angeles Knight Riders in the 2025 Major League Cricket.
Playing for West Indies
Starting His International Journey
Jason Holder played his first One Day International (ODI) game on February 1, 2013, against Australia. One of his first big moments in ODIs was in July 2013 against Pakistan. He took 4 wickets for only 13 runs! He also showed his all-round skills in another ODI against Pakistan, helping his team get a tie by scoring 19 runs very quickly.
He made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut in January 2014 against New Zealand. After doing well in ODIs, he was chosen for the Test team in June 2014. He played his first Test match on June 26, 2014, also against New Zealand. He took his first Test wicket in that match and scored 90 runs, including his first Test fifty.
Becoming a Captain
Jason Holder became the captain of the West Indies ODI team when he was just 23 years old, making him the youngest West Indies captain ever. In September 2015, he was also named the captain of the Test team. He became the second youngest Test captain for the West Indies.
He led his team to the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Cup. In April 2015, he scored his first Test century against England, which helped his team draw the match. As captain, he often had to lead a team without some of their most experienced players.
In July 2017, Holder took his first five-wicket haul in an ODI game against India. He bowled brilliantly, taking 5 wickets for just 27 runs, and helped the West Indies win the match. He was named man of the match for his great performance.
In March 2018, Holder became the fastest West Indies player to score 1,000 runs and take 100 wickets in ODIs. In 2018, he had an amazing year in Test cricket. He scored 336 runs and took 33 wickets, with a fantastic bowling average. He was the only West Indies player chosen for the ICC Test Team of the Year.
In January 2019, Holder scored his first double century in Test cricket against England. He scored 202 runs not out, which was a huge achievement for a number eight batsman. The West Indies won that match by a big margin, and Holder was named man of the match. After this, he became the top-ranked all-rounder in Test cricket, the first West Indies player to do so since Sir Garfield Sobers in 1974.
He captained the West Indies team in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In June 2019, he played his 100th ODI match. In July 2019, he became the first West Indies captain to take 100 wickets in ODIs. In August 2019, he took his 100th wicket in Test cricket. He also led the West Indies Test squad in their series against England in July 2020, after the series was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After Captaincy
Even after he stopped being captain, Jason Holder continued to perform well. In March 2021, he took 5 wickets for 27 runs against Sri Lanka in a Test match. He also scored 71 runs not out in another Test against Sri Lanka. In April 2021, he was again recognized as one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year.
In July 2021, he scored 52 runs to help the West Indies win an ODI against Australia. In August 2021, he scored 58 runs in a Test match against Pakistan. He was the third-highest run-scorer in that Test series. In September 2021, he was named as a reserve player for the West Indies squad in the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
In January 2022, Holder was part of the West Indies squad for their T20I series against England. In the final match of the series, he took an amazing 5 wickets for 27 runs, which was his first five-wicket haul in T20Is. He also became the first West Indies bowler to take a hat-trick in T20Is, and the fourth bowler ever to take four wickets in four balls in T20Is! He won both Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards for his outstanding performance.
In February 2022, Holder scored 57 runs in an ODI against India. This made him only the fifth West Indian to achieve both 2,000 runs and 100 wickets in One Day Internationals. In March 2023, he took his 150th Test wicket against South Africa. With this, he became only the second West Indian, after Garfield Sobers, to get both 2,500 runs and 150 wickets in Test cricket. He also scored 81 runs not out in another Test against South Africa.
In May 2024, he was chosen for the West Indies squad for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament.
