Jason Worilds, born on March 3, 1988, is a former American football player. He played as a linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the pros, he played college football at Virginia Tech. The Steelers picked him in the 2010 NFL draft. Early Life and High School Football
Jason Worilds grew up in Carteret, New Jersey. He went to Carteret High School. There, he was a talented athlete in both football and track.
On the football field, Jason played several positions. He was a defensive lineman, a linebacker, and even a fullback. During his junior year, he made 87 tackles and 12 sacks. He also ran for 330 yards and scored four touchdowns. His great performance earned him "All-State" honors.
Jason continued to shine in his senior year. He had 107 tackles and 10 sacks. He was again named All-State, making him the first player from his school to get this honor two years in a row. Experts like Rivals.com and Scout.com ranked him among the best defensive players in the country.
College Career at Virginia Tech
Jason Worilds started his college football journey at Virginia Tech. In his first year, he played in two games. He even blocked a punt! However, he needed shoulder surgery and took a medical red-shirt year.
He came back strong in 2007. He helped his team by pressuring the opposing quarterback. Later that season, an ankle injury caused him to miss a game.
In 2008, Jason became a starter, playing in 13 games. He was fourth on his team with 62 tackles. He also led the Hokies with 21 quarterback hurries. He had to miss the Orange Bowl due to another shoulder injury.
His junior year in 2009 was very successful. Jason started all 13 games for Virginia Tech. He recorded 49 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and forced a fumble. He also put a lot of pressure on quarterbacks. After this impressive season, Jason decided to enter the NFL Draft. He finished his college career with 132 tackles and 15 sacks.

The Pittsburgh Steelers picked Jason Worilds in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft. He was the 52nd player chosen overall. He signed a contract to stay with the Steelers in 2014.
On March 11, 2015, Jason made a surprising announcement. He decided to retire from the NFL at just 27 years old. He had played five seasons with the Steelers. Many people were surprised because he was expected to sign a big new contract.
