Jasper Liu Yi-hao (Chinese: 劉以豪; born August 12, 1986) is a famous Taiwanese actor, model, and musician. He started his career as a model. Later, he became a popular actor in Taiwan and other parts of Asia. Some of his well-known works include the movie More than Blue (2018). He also starred in TV shows like Before We Get Married (2019) and Pleasantly Surprised (2014).
From 2009 to 2016, Liu was part of a band called Morning Call. He played the guitar and sang backup vocals. He released his first solo music, an extended play called U, on September 4, 2020.

Early life and beginnings
Jasper Liu was born in Taipei, Taiwan, on August 12, 1986. He has an older sister. His cousin, Angus Hsieh, is also an actor. Liu studied visual design at Dayeh University.
His father was a big influence on him. His dad was active in sports like swimming and volleyball. This encouraged Liu to stay fit and work out when he was a teenager. His father also played the guitar, which inspired Liu to learn the instrument too.
Liu has mentioned that he joined the entertainment world because he sometimes felt overshadowed. His father and sister both had higher college degrees than him. Even though he was a fair student, he often spent time drawing or painting instead of studying.
A big change in his life happened in 2011. He got a small role in a TV show called In Time with You. He had to perm his hair for the character. He liked the curly look so much that he kept it after filming. This curly hair soon became his signature style.
Career journey
Starting as a model
2008–2010: Early days
During his last year of university, Liu joined a modeling competition in 2008. He won third place. His father was not sure about him joining showbiz at first. But Liu asked for two years to try it out. He signed with an agency. However, he did not have much success in his first three years as a model.
2011: Modeling success
In 2011, his modeling career took off. This happened after he appeared in the TV show In Time with You. He had to perm his naturally straight hair into short curls for the role. People soon recognized him for his unique curly hair. It looked like the top of a broccoli head. This gave him the nickname "Village Chief of Broccoli Village." He quickly became a popular male model. He worked in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea. He walked in fashion shows and appeared in many magazines.
Becoming an actor
2011–2012: First acting roles
After some small roles, Liu got his first big chance in 2011. He played "Mei Nam" in the popular TV show In Time with You. His character was a handsome high school student with curly hair. After the show's success, Liu kept his curly hair. It became his signature look. He continued to play supporting roles in other TV shows. These included a small part in Once Upon a Love (2012) and a role in the teen comedy Confucius.
2013: First main roles
In 2013, Liu got his first main role in a TV show. It was in The Patisserie with No Name. He played "Allen," a traveler who finds a French pastry shop. He asks to stay and work there. He also appeared in IUUI, where he played "Luo Jia He." This character falls in love with a girl he grew up with like a sister.
In 2014, his popularity grew in Japan. He appeared in an episode of the mystery show Kindaichi Case Files. He played a foreign exchange student.
2014: Big TV and film roles
Liu's acting career continued to grow in 2014. He starred in the romantic comedy Pleasantly Surprised. He played "Louis Fu Zi Jie," a talented French chef. He falls in love with his childhood friend, played by Puff Kuo. Their chemistry on screen was very popular. They even won the "Best Kiss" award at the 2014 Sanlih Drama Awards.
That same year, two of his movies were released. In Live@Love, he played a young assistant in a detective comedy. In Second Chance, he had a supporting role. This movie was about a young girl who joins a billiards competition.
2015: New challenges
After Pleasantly Surprised, Liu took on a new role. He played a ghost in the fantasy romance comedy I Am Sorry, I Love You. He played a ghost who haunts his ex-girlfriend. Later in 2015, he starred in When I See You Again. He played a character who was not attractive in school but later became handsome.
2016: Fan meetings and movies
In 2016, Liu had his first fan meeting in Seoul, South Korea. All 500 tickets sold out very quickly. Hundreds of fans greeted him at the airport. This showed how popular he was in South Korea. He also won the Asian Male Star Prize at the 11th Seoul Drama Awards.
In September, Liu started filming the movie Take Me to the Moon. It was a musical romance set in a high school. He played a high school student alongside Vivian Sung. The movie was inspired by a song by the singer Chang Yu Sheng. It was released in December 2017.
2017–2018: Growing fame
In 2017, Liu filmed his first project in China. It was a romantic comedy web series called Mary Sue & Jack Sue. He played a warm childhood friend. He also starred in the historical TV drama My Bittersweet Taiwan.
In 2018, Liu and Ivy Chen reunited for the romantic movie More than Blue. It was a remake of a South Korean film. Liu played Chang Che-kai, a character with a serious illness. He changed his look for this role, growing stubble and wearing a long-haired wig. The movie was released in November 2018.
Liu's popularity in Korea grew even more after Take Me to the Moon did well there. He appeared as a guest on the Korean TV show The Return of Superman. He also presented an award at the 2018 Seoul International Drama Awards. His film More than Blue was very popular at the 23rd Busan International Film Festival. He won the "Face of Asia" prize there.
2019–Present: Big hits and new ventures
By 2019, More than Blue became a huge success. It was the highest-grossing Taiwanese film in China. It also did well in many other countries.
Liu worked again with Puff Kuo in the TV show Before We Get Married. This show was very popular online in China and Taiwan. It was about two people who fall in love even though they are with other people. Liu's acting in this show was highly praised. It showed a different side of him compared to his usual bright characters. This role made him even more famous.
In June 2019, Liu left his agency after 10 years. He decided to work under his own independent company. He also teamed up with managers who work with other big stars.
He joined Lee Seung Gi for a Netflix travel show called Twogether. In this show, they travel to different countries to meet their fans. He also starred in the Netflix series Triad Princess (2019). In late 2019, he began filming the fantasy drama Twelve Legends. In 2020, he filmed the romance-comedy Use For My Talent.
Music career
Besides acting and modeling, Jasper Liu was the guitarist for the indie band Morning Call. The band wrote and produced their own songs. They performed in small music venues around Asia. The band went on a break in 2016. After Liu left his agency in 2019, the band naturally stopped performing together.
In October 2018, Liu was featured as a rapper in a song called Happy Offshore Island. On his birthday, August 12, 2019, he released A Kind of Sorrow as a digital song. This marked his debut as a solo singer.
Image and nicknames
Fans often call Jasper Liu the "Village Chief of Broccoli Village." This is because his curly hair looks like the top of a broccoli head. With his bright smile and dimples, he is also known as "Taiwan's Most Adorable Boyfriend." Because he is so popular and has a warm personality, the media also calls him "Taiwan's Nation Boyfriend."
Personal life
Jasper Liu lives with his parents in his childhood home in Taipei. He loves to travel and go on vacations with his parents when he has free time.
Besides writing songs, Liu is also interested in oil painting. His dog, "Yellow," was often a subject in his paintings. Liu has also given some of his paintings to charity. He had two brown Canaan dogs named "Yellow" and "Yeahbe." He often shared pictures of them on social media.
