Jasper Liu Yi-hao (Chinese: 劉以豪) was born on August 12, 1986. He is a famous Taiwanese actor, model, and musician. Jasper started his career as a model. Later, he became an actor and grew very popular in Taiwan and other parts of Asia.
Some of his well-known acting projects include the movie More than Blue (2018) and the TV shows Before We Get Married (2019), Triad Princess (2019), and Pleasantly Surprised (2014).
From 2009 to 2016, Jasper was also a member of a band called Morning Call. He played the guitar and sang backup vocals. In 2020, he released his first music album, an extended play (EP) called U.

Early life and beginnings
Jasper Liu was born in Taipei, Taiwan, on August 12, 1986. He has an older sister. His cousin, Angus Hsieh, is also an actor. Angus is known for the drama The Outsiders. Jasper studied Visual Design at Dayeh University.
Jasper's father played a big role in his life. His father was a swimmer and volleyball player. This encouraged Jasper to stay active and work out when he was a teenager. His father also played the guitar, which inspired Jasper to learn the instrument too.
Jasper has shared that he sometimes felt overshadowed by his father and sister. They both had higher college degrees than him. He was a good student but never as good as his sister. He sometimes just barely passed his classes. Instead of studying, he loved to spend time drawing or painting.
Around 2010, Jasper went through a very hard time. He didn't get many job offers. Also, his grandmother passed away. His mother had health issues, and his older sister had high blood pressure. His beloved pet dog, ChiChi, who he had for 17 years, also died.
Things started to change for Jasper in 2011. He got a small role in the TV show In Time with You. For this role, he had to perm his straight hair into curls. He decided to keep this curly hairstyle after the show. It soon became his signature look.

Becoming a model
Starting out (2008–2010)
During his last year at university, Jasper entered a modeling contest in 2008. He won third place. His father was worried about him joining the entertainment world. But Jasper asked for two years to try it out. He signed with an agency. However, he didn't have much success in his first three years as a model.
Finding fame (2011 onwards)
His modeling career really took off in 2011. This happened after he played "Mei Nam" in the TV show In Time with You. For the role, he got his hair permed into short curls. This curly hair became his famous "broccoli" look. Fans even nicknamed him "Village Chief of Broccoli Village." Soon, he became a very popular male model. He worked in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea. He walked in fashion shows and appeared in magazines like Vogue.
Acting and growing popularity
First acting roles (2011–2012)
After some small roles, Jasper got his big break in 2011. He played "Mei Nam" in the popular TV show In Time with You. He was a high school classmate of the main characters. His curly hair made his character stand out. After the show's success, Jasper kept his curly hair. It became his signature style. He continued to act in supporting roles in other TV shows. These included a small part in Once Upon a Love (2012) and a role in the teen comedy Confucius.
First main role (2013)
In 2013, Jasper got his first main role in a TV show. It was in the drama The Patisserie with No Name. He played "Allen," a backpacker who finds a French pastry shop. He works there to earn his stay. He also appeared in IUUI, where he played "Luo Jia He," a man who falls in love with a girl he grew up with.
In 2014, Jasper's popularity reached Japan. He appeared in an episode of the Japanese mystery show Kindaichi Case Files. Even though he knows some Japanese, his voice was dubbed by a Japanese actor.
Big success with Pleasantly Surprised (2014)
His acting career as a main actor kept growing in 2014. He joined Sanlih E-Television to star in their dramas. His first project with them was the romantic comedy Pleasantly Surprised. He starred opposite Taiwanese actress Puff Kuo. For this role, he cut his curly hair for a more grown-up look. He played "Louis Fu Zi Jie," a talented French chef. He falls in love with his childhood friend, played by Puff Kuo. Their chemistry on screen was a big hit. They even won the "Best Kiss" award at the 2014 Sanlih Drama Awards.
In 2014, two of Jasper's movies were also released. He had his first main movie role in Live@Love. He played a young assistant to a detective. He also had a supporting role in Second Chance. In this movie, he played the love interest of the main character, who enters a billiards competition.
New roles and fan meetings (2015–2016)
After Pleasantly Surprised, Jasper started filming a new drama called I Am Sorry, I Love You in 2015. It was a light-hearted fantasy romance. He played a ghost who haunts his ex-girlfriend. Later in 2015, he starred in another Sanlih drama, When I See You Again. He played a character who was unattractive in school but later became handsome.
In 2016, Jasper had a quieter period for acting. He did some commercials and voiced a character named Andrea in the animated movie "Chibi Maruko-chan: Italia Kara Kita Shōnen". He also took on a new challenge in the web series "Lost? Me Too: Chloe." He played "Rex," a hot-tempered band vocalist. This role was different from his usual warm characters.
His career grew even more when he held his first fan meeting in Seoul, South Korea, on July 31, 2016. All 500 tickets sold out in just 10 minutes! Hundreds of Korean fans greeted him at the airport. This showed how popular he was in South Korea. He won the Asian Male Star Prize at the 11th Seoul Drama Awards in September.
In September 2016, Jasper started filming the movie Take Me to the Moon. It was a musical romance set in a high school in 1997 Taiwan. He played a high school student. The movie was inspired by a song by the late singer Chang Yu Sheng. It was released in December 2017.
Growing fame (2017–2018)
In March 2017, Jasper began filming his first project in China, a romantic comedy web series called Mary Sue & Jack Sue. He played a warm childhood friend who is secretly a famous comic artist. He then starred in the historical TV drama My Bittersweet Taiwan.
In 2018, Jasper reunited with actress Ivy Chen for the romantic movie More than Blue. It was a remake of a South Korean film. Jasper played Chang Che-kai, a character who is battling a serious illness. He changed his look for this role, growing stubble and wearing a long-haired wig. The movie was released in November 2018.
After finishing More than Blue, Jasper took on a new role in the TV drama My Goddess. He played Yan Dong Ming, a music producer.
The movie Take Me to the Moon was very successful in Korea in mid-2018. This helped Jasper's popularity grow even more there. He had been known in Korea since 2013 when his photos became popular online. During his movie promotions in Korea, he even topped the search rankings on the Korean website Naver. He also appeared as a guest on the Korean TV show The Return of Superman. In 2018, he returned to the Seoul International Drama Awards as an award presenter.
In late 2018, his movie More than Blue was very well-received at the 23rd Busan International Film Festival. All 5000 tickets for its premiere sold out in 5 minutes. He won the "Face of Asia" prize at the festival.
Recent projects (2019–present)
By 2019, More Than Blue had earned a lot of money worldwide. It became the highest-grossing Taiwanese film in China.
Jasper worked again with Puff Kuo, his co-star from Pleasantly Surprised, in the drama Before We Get Married. This show was released in May 2019. It was very popular online, getting over 400 million views. Jasper's acting in this drama was highly praised. It showed a different side of him compared to his usual bright characters. His role in this show made him even more famous in China and other countries.
In June 2019, Jasper left his agency, Eelin Entertainment, after 10 years. He decided to work under his own independent label. He also teamed up with managers who work with other famous stars to manage his career in China.
Jasper partnered with Korean star Lee Seung Gi for the Netflix travel show Twogether. They traveled to different countries to meet their fans.
In the same year, he starred in the Netflix show Triad Princess with actress Eugenie Liu. In late 2019, he began filming the Chinese fantasy drama Twelve Legends. He played Jin Xing Jian, a character with special powers. In 2020, he started filming the romantic comedy Use For My Talent. He played Gu Ren Qi, a man with a fear of germs.
Music career
Besides acting and modeling, Jasper was the guitarist for the Taiwanese indie band Morning Call. The band wrote and produced their own songs. They performed in small music venues for several years. In 2015, they officially debuted by releasing digital songs. The band often toured around Asia. In December 2016, the band announced they would take a break after their keyboardist left. Later, the bassist also left. When Jasper left his agency in 2019, the band naturally broke up.
In October 2018, Jasper was featured as a rapper in Summer Meng's song Happy Offshore Island.
On his birthday, August 12, 2019, Jasper released the full version of A Kind of Sorrow. This was the theme song for the movie More Than Blue. This song marked his official debut as a solo singer.
Public image
Fans often call Jasper Liu the "Village Chief of Broccoli Village." This is because his curly hair looks like the top of a broccoli head. With his bright smile and dimples, he is also known as "Taiwan's Most Adorable Boyfriend." Because he is so popular and has a warm personality, the media also calls him "Taiwan's Nation Boyfriend."
Personal life
Jasper lives with his parents in his childhood home in Taipei. He loves to travel and go on vacations with his parents when he has time off.
Besides writing songs, Jasper is also interested in oil painting. His dog, "Yellow," was a favorite subject for his paintings. Jasper has also given some of his paintings to charity.
Jasper had two brown Canaan dogs named "Yellow" and "Yeahbe." He often shared pictures of them on social media. In 2018, his 13-year-old dog "Yellow" passed away.
