Early Life and Musical Roots

Jatin and Lalit grew up in a family that loved music. Their family came from a village called Pili Mandori in the Hissar district of Haryana state. A very famous musician, Pandit Jasraj, was their uncle.

They learned a lot about music from their father, Pandit Pratap Narayan. They also learned to play the guitar and piano from Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma, who was part of the famous Laxmikant–Pyarelal music duo.

Their sisters, Sulakshana Pandit and Vijayta Pandit, are also Hindi film actresses.

Their Musical Journey

Jatin and Lalit started working together by chance. Jatin first worked with his older brother, Mandheer, but they didn't have many big hits. Lalit, the youngest brother, was also very interested in music. So, they decided to form a new team: Jatin–Lalit. Their first music album together was called Rhythmic Love.

They officially began their career in 1991. They composed music for the Hindi movie Yaara Dildara. The song "Bin Tere Sanam" from this movie became a huge hit. They became more famous after working on the movie Khiladi and for the romantic song "Pehla Nasha" from Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander. This song earned them their first nomination for a big award called the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director. Their music for Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman in 1992 was also very popular.
