Jefferson is nestled in the northern part of a beautiful area called South Park. You can find it right along U.S. Route 285, a main road that runs through Colorado. It's about 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Fairplay, another town in the area.

This community sits at the western base of Kenosha Pass, a mountain pass that offers stunning views. Jefferson is also close to other interesting places:

  • About 6 miles (10 km) from Como.
  • Around 23 miles (37 km) from Bailey.
  • About 37 miles (60 km) from the popular ski town of Breckenridge.

Most of Jefferson's businesses are located right along US 285. You'll also find a small group of houses and trailers on the south side of the highway.

Historic Landmarks

Jefferson is home to some cool historic spots that tell stories of the past:

  • One-Room Schoolhouse: Imagine going to school where all the grades learned together in just one room! Jefferson has a historic one-room schoolhouse that stands as a reminder of how education used to be.
  • Historic Train Depot: The Historic Jefferson Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad (DSP&P RR) Depot was built around 1880. This old train station is easy to spot in the wide-open grasslands of South Park. It reminds us of the days when trains were a major way to travel and transport goods.

The Jefferson Post Office used to have the ZIP Code 80456, but it closed its doors in 2022.
