Welcome to Jefferson, a small, unique place in Park County, Colorado, United States! It's an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Think of it as a neighborhood that's part of a larger county.
Exploring Jefferson's Location
Jefferson is nestled in the northern part of a beautiful area called South Park. You can find it right along U.S. Route 285, a main road that runs through Colorado. It's about 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Fairplay, another town in the area.
This community sits at the western base of Kenosha Pass, a mountain pass that offers stunning views. Jefferson is also close to other interesting places:
- About 6 miles (10 km) from Como.
- Around 23 miles (37 km) from Bailey.
- About 37 miles (60 km) from the popular ski town of Breckenridge.
Most of Jefferson's businesses are located right along US 285. You'll also find a small group of houses and trailers on the south side of the highway.
Historic Landmarks
Jefferson is home to some cool historic spots that tell stories of the past:
- One-Room Schoolhouse: Imagine going to school where all the grades learned together in just one room! Jefferson has a historic one-room schoolhouse that stands as a reminder of how education used to be.
- Historic Train Depot: The Historic Jefferson Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad (DSP&P RR) Depot was built around 1880. This old train station is easy to spot in the wide-open grasslands of South Park. It reminds us of the days when trains were a major way to travel and transport goods.
The Jefferson Post Office used to have the ZIP Code 80456, but it closed its doors in 2022.
