Jerome Lane Sr. (born December 4, 1966) is an American former professional basketball player. He played for six seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Lane was a star college player at the University of Pittsburgh. He was even named an All-American and led the entire NCAA in rebounding during his sophomore year.

Jerome Lane's High School Days
Jerome Lane was born in Akron, Ohio. He played basketball at Saint Vincent–Saint Mary High School. While there, he was a shooting guard. He was also chosen to play in the famous McDonald's All-American Game. This game features the best high school basketball players in the country.
Jerome Lane's College Career
Lane joined the Pittsburgh Panthers college team in 1985. He started as a freshman weighing about 170 pounds. By his junior year, this 6-foot-6-inch forward had gained 60 pounds.
In the 1986–87 season, he became a rebounding leader. He grabbed an amazing 13.5 rebounds per game. This made him the first player 6'6" or shorter to lead the country in rebounds since 1957. He left college after leading the Big East Conference in rebounding during the 1987–88 season.
The Famous "Send it in, Jerome!" Dunk
On January 25, 1988, Jerome Lane was playing for Pittsburgh against Providence. The game was shown on national television. During the game, Lane made a powerful one-handed dunk. He dunked so hard that he broke the glass backboard!
This play is often called "The Dunk." The TV announcer, Bill Raftery, famously yelled, "Send it in, Jerome!!" This moment is on ESPN's list of the "100 Greatest Sports Highlights." People still talk about it decades later.
Jerome Lane's Professional Journey
The Denver Nuggets picked Jerome Lane in the first round of the 1988 NBA draft. He was the 23rd player chosen overall. Lane played in the NBA for five seasons. He played for the Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
After his time in the NBA, Lane became a star in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He played for the Oklahoma City Cavalry. He was an all-star in the CBA from 1994 to 1996. He led the league in rebounding in 1995 (11.8 rebounds per game) and 1996 (16.8 rebounds per game).
He also played successfully in Spain. Later, he returned to the CBA. In 1999, he led the league in rebounding again. He grabbed 14.5 rebounds per game for the Idaho Stampede.
Jerome Lane's Playing Style
Jerome Lane was best known for his amazing rebounding skills. He was also good at handling the basketball. However, his jump shot and free throw shooting were not always consistent. He is considered the best rebounder in the history of the Liga ACB (a Spanish basketball league).

Jerome Lane has a son named Jerome Lane Jr. His son is also a professional athlete. Jerome Lane Jr. is a wide receiver in American football. He once signed with the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL).
