Jerry Bengtson's Club Career
Playing for Vida
Jerry Bengtson started his professional football journey with C.D.S. Vida on August 12, 2007. His first game was against Olimpia. He scored his very first goal for Vida on September 30, 2007, in a game against Real España. During his time at Vida, he scored a total of 32 goals.
Time with Motagua
On November 26, 2010, Jerry joined F.C. Motagua and signed a three-year contract. He scored his first goal for Motagua on January 30, 2011, helping his team win 1–0 against C.D. Marathón.
In May 2011, Jerry scored his 13th goal in the Clausura Tournament final against Olimpia. This made him the top scorer in the league. He was the first Honduran player to be the top scorer in three tournaments in a row. He scored two more goals in the second game of the final, securing his title as the league's best scorer.
In early 2012, Jerry had a tough time scoring goals. He only scored 2 goals in 18 games. This worried many people in Honduras because he was a key goal scorer for the Honduras National Football Team.
Playing in New England
Jerry Bengtson joined the New England Revolution in the United States on July 5, 2012. He was a "Designated Player," which means he was a high-value player for the team. He was the third Honduran player to play for the Revolution.
Jerry played his first game for the Revolution on July 8, 2012. He came into the game as a substitute and scored his first goal in the 84th minute. This helped the Revolution win 2-0 against the New York Red Bulls. After this, he went to play for Honduras in the 2012 Olympic Games, where he scored three goals. When he returned, he started his first game for the Revolution on August 12. In his first season, he played 13 games and scored 2 goals.
In 2013, Jerry played 16 games and scored one goal. This goal was the winning goal in the first game of the season against the Chicago Fire. In August 2013, he went to play for the Greek club Panionios on a temporary loan.
In 2014, Jerry played only 7 games for the Revolution and scored one goal. This goal was on April 12 in a 2-0 win against the Houston Dynamo. On July 25, 2014, he went on loan again, this time to Belgrano in Argentina for one year.
Even though Jerry played well for his national team, he didn't quite meet the expectations of the New England Revolution. He found it hard to fit into the team's playing style. He started only 23 games and scored only four goals over three seasons. His goal against Houston was his last for the Revolution. On June 16, 2015, the Revolution and Jerry agreed to end his contract.
Moving to Persepolis
Jerry Bengtson signed a one-year contract with Persepolis in Iran on July 29, 2015. He played his first game for Persepolis for the last 20 minutes against Sepahan. He scored his first goal for Persepolis on September 25, 2015, against Tractor Sazi. He also scored the only goal for Persepolis in a 1–1 draw against their big rivals Esteghlal. This goal came in the final moments of the game.
On April 22, 2016, Jerry scored two goals in a 2–0 win against Esteghlal Ahvaz. This win kept Persepolis at the top of the league table. Persepolis finished the season tied for first place but lost the championship due to goal difference.
Playing for Zob Ahan
In July 2016, Jerry signed a one-year contract with another Iranian team, Zob Ahan.
Time with Saprissa
On May 31, 2017, Jerry Bengtson signed a one-year contract with the Costa Rican club Saprissa. He had a difficult start with the team. He was suspended for 6 games for diving and for insulting a referee.
He left Saprissa at the end of the season after his team won the final against Herediano.
Returning to Olimpia
On June 6, 2018, Jerry Bengtson returned to Honduras and joined Olimpia. In December 2021, Jerry scored the only goal in a 1–0 win against Real España. This goal made Olimpia the champions of the 2021 Apertura tournament.
