The French Guiana national football team is the official football team for French Guiana. This team is controlled by the Ligue de football de la Guyane. This league is a local part of the French Football Federation.

About the Team and FIFA Rules

French Guiana is a special part of France. Because of this, it is not a member of FIFA, the world's main football organization. This means the team cannot play in the Football World Cup.

However, players from French Guiana are French citizens. They can play for the main France national football team. Some famous players from French Guiana have played for France. These include Bernard Lama, Mike Maignan, and Florent Malouda. Mike Maignan is currently the main goalkeeper for France. Bernard Lama won the 1998 FIFA World Cup with France. Florent Malouda was part of the team that finished second in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Playing in CONCACAF

Even though French Guiana is not in FIFA, it is a member of CONCACAF. This is the football group for North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. French Guiana is also part of the CFU. This means they can play in competitions organized by both groups.

Football rules allow teams from certain areas to join regional groups. This is true even if their main country is in a different region. The French Football Federation agrees to this. It allows these local leagues to organize regional games and send teams to play.
