Jessica Reyez (born June 12, 1991) is a talented Canadian singer and songwriter. She is known for her unique voice and powerful songs. Her 2016 song, "Figures", became very popular, reaching number 58 on the Canadian Hot 100 music chart. This song was certified three times platinum in Canada, meaning it sold a lot of copies!
Jessie Reyez's first collection of songs, called an extended play (EP), was Kiddo (released in 2017). This EP helped her win the Breakthrough Artist award at the 2018 Juno Awards. Her second EP, Being Human in Public (2018), won the R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the 2019 Juno Awards. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award in 2020.
Reyez has also written songs for other famous artists like Calvin Harris, Kehlani, and Dua Lipa. She has even worked with the rapper Eminem on several songs. Her first full album, Before Love Came to Kill Us (2020), was very successful and reached number 13 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Early life and musical start
Jessica Reyez was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Her parents are from Colombia. Her father first showed her how to play the guitar, which sparked her interest in music and art. She started writing her own songs when she was in high school.
After high school, Reyez decided to focus on her music instead of going to college. She worked different jobs while chasing her dream. In 2012, she moved to Florida and often performed her music on the beach. She returned to Toronto in 2014 after being accepted into The Remix Project's Academy of Recording Arts. There, she learned a lot and met important people in the music industry.
Music career highlights
Early songs and Kiddo (2014–2017)
In 2014, Jessie Reyez released her first song, "Living in the Sky," with King Louie. They released another song, "It Hurts (Selena)," in 2015. In early 2017, she released "Shutter Island" and toured Europe, performing before PartyNextDoor's shows.
Her song "Figures" was first played on Beats 1 radio and quickly became a hit. It reached number 58 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart and was certified triple platinum in Canada.
In April 2017, Reyez released her first EP, Kiddo. She also released a short film called Gatekeeper. This film talked about challenges artists can face in the music industry. Kiddo was a popular EP and was nominated for many awards, including four Juno Awards in 2018. She won the Breakthrough Artist award that year. She also performed "Figures" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Later in 2017, she signed a record deal with Island Records.
Being Human in Public (2018–2019)
Billboard magazine named Reyez one of the top new Hip-Hop and R&B artists to watch in 2018. She worked with Lewis Capaldi on his 2018 song "Rush".
She then released her second EP, Being Human in Public, and toured across North America. This EP won the R&B/Soul Recording of The Year at the 2019 Juno Awards. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award in 2020.
In August 2018, Reyez worked with Eminem on two songs, "Nice Guy" and "Good Guy", from his album Kamikaze. Both songs appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In April 2019, Reyez released the song "Imported" with 6lack. This song was certified Gold in both the US and Canada. She also appeared in the Netflix film, Someone Great.
Before Love Came to Kill Us (2020–2021)
Jessie Reyez received her first Grammy nomination in 2020 for her EP Being Human in Public. She was scheduled to open for Billie Eilish on her world tour and perform at the Coachella festival. However, many of these events were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reyez released her first full studio album, Before Love Came to Kill Us, on March 27, 2020. The album featured collaborations with Eminem and 6lack. It debuted at number 13 on the Billboard 200 chart.
She won the R&B/Soul Recording of the Year in 2020 for her song "Feel It Too" with Tory Lanez and Tainy. The music video for her song "Far Away" also won the 2020 Prism Prize. Reyez was featured in Beyoncé's musical film Black Is King, which came out in July 2020.
In 2021, she received five nominations at the Juno Awards, including Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. Her music video for "No One's in the Room" won the Video of the Year award.
Yessie (2022–present)
Jessie Reyez released her second studio album, Yessie, on September 16, 2022. This album has 11 songs and includes another collaboration with 6lack on the song "Forever". Her latest album, Paid in Memories, was released in 2025.
