James Ray Jones (born May 6, 1935 – died October 5, 1982) was an American football player. He played as a defensive back, a position that helps stop the other team from scoring. Jim played one season with the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League (NFL). He was chosen by the Rams in the third round of the 1958 NFL Draft. Before turning professional, he played college football at the University of Washington. Jones also played for the BC Lions and the Oakland Raiders.

Early Life and High School Football
Jim Jones grew up in Tacoma, Washington. He played high school football at Lincoln High School. While playing there, he was recognized as an "all-state" fullback. A fullback is a player who runs with the ball or blocks for other players on offense.
College Football Career
Jones played for the Washington Huskies college team from 1956 to 1957. During his time there, he ran for a total of 852 yards and scored two touchdowns. In his final year, 1957, he was named First-team All-PCC and was a co-captain for the Huskies. After college, he was invited to play in the Chicago College All-Star Game in 1958, which featured top college players.
Professional Football Journey
The Los Angeles Rams picked Jim Jones as the 30th player in the 1958 NFL Draft. He played in twelve games for the Rams during the 1958 season. After his time with the Rams, he played in fifteen games for the BC Lions in Canada from 1960 to 1961. Jones also played one game for the Oakland Raiders in 1961.
Later Life
Jim Jones passed away on October 5, 1982, in King County, Washington. At the time of his death, he worked as an insurance agent for Allstate.
