Graham Neil Edwards (born 27 May 1955 – died 6 April 2020), known as Jock Edwards, was a talented cricket player from New Zealand. He played for the New Zealand national team in both Test matches and One Day Internationals.

Jock Edwards: A New Zealand Cricketer

Jock Edwards was born in Nelson, a city in New Zealand. He went to Nelson College, a well-known school there.

Early Cricket Days and International Debut

Edwards was a strong wicketkeeper and a good batsman. A wicketkeeper is the player behind the stumps who catches balls. A batsman is the player who hits the ball. He first played for New Zealand in a Test match against Australia in 1976–77. At that time, he played mainly as a specialist batsman.

He returned to the team in 1977–78 as both a wicketkeeper and a batsman. In a match against England in Auckland, he scored 55 and 54 runs. These good scores helped him get picked for the New Zealand team's tour to England in 1978.

Playing for Central Districts

Edwards also played a lot of first-class and List A cricket for the Central Districts team. He played for them from 1973–74 until 1984–85.

His highest score in first-class cricket was 177 runs, which was not out (meaning he was still batting when the game ended). This happened in a game against Wellington in the 1980–81 season. That year was his best, as he scored 812 runs in total.

Edwards was also a key player for the Nelson team in the Hawke Cup for many years. In his last match for Nelson, he scored 236 runs. This included six sixes and 29 fours, showing his powerful hitting!

Life After Cricket and Passing

After he stopped playing cricket, Jock Edwards ran a pub in Murchison. Later, he worked as a gate-keeper at Port Nelson.

He had some health issues and underwent heart surgery in 2007. Jock Edwards passed away on 6 April 2020.
