College Football Hall of Fame

Joe Hamilton (born March 13, 1977) is a former American football player. He was a quarterback, which is like the team's leader on offense. He played in the National Football League (NFL), NFL Europe, and the Arena Football League (AFL).

Joe was an amazing college player for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He won the Davey O'Brien Award in 1999, which goes to the best college quarterback. After he stopped playing, Joe became a coach and worked in sports administration. He now helps with recruiting new players for Georgia Tech.

College Football Star

Joe Hamilton went to Georgia Tech on a sports scholarship. He played for their football team from 1996 to 1999. During his time there, he set some big records for the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). He had over 10,000 total yards and scored 83 touchdowns!

In his senior year (1999), Joe was recognized as one of the best college players in the country. He won the Davey O'Brien Award and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. The Heisman Trophy is given to the most outstanding player in college football. Joe finished second in the voting that year. In 2014, Joe Hamilton was honored by being chosen for the College Football Hall of Fame.

Playing Professional Football

Even though Joe was a fantastic college player, some teams in the NFL thought he was a bit short for a quarterback. He was 5 feet 10 inches tall. Because of this, he was picked later in the 2000 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Time with the Buccaneers

Joe played for the Buccaneers for three years. He didn't play much in regular games. In 2002, the Buccaneers sent him to NFL Europe. This league helped players get more experience. Joe led the Frankfurt Galaxy to a good record, but then he got a knee injury. He spent the rest of that year recovering. Even though he didn't play in the Super Bowl XXXVII, he received a Super Bowl ring when the Buccaneers won!

Arena Football League Career

After leaving the NFL, Joe joined the Orlando Predators in the Arena Football League (AFL) in 2004. He helped the team reach the playoffs that year.

In 2004, he briefly signed with the Indianapolis Colts to play for his old coach, but he didn't play much and soon returned to the Orlando Predators. He became their main quarterback and led them to the championship game, ArenaBowl XX, in 2006. They lost a close game, but Joe almost became the first player to win both a Super Bowl ring and an ArenaBowl ring!

Life After Playing Football

After his playing career, Joe went back to school. He earned his college degree in 2007.

In 2010, he started coaching. He worked as an intern for Georgia State University's new football team. By 2011, he was a full-time coach for their running backs. In 2013, Joe returned to his old college, Georgia Tech, to help with recruiting new football players.

Today, Joe Hamilton is also a sports radio host in Atlanta. He talks about sports on a show called "The Locker Room." He also helps broadcast Georgia Tech football games on the radio.
