John Ronald "Johnny" McCormack (born August 2, 1925 – died February 22, 2017) was a Canadian ice hockey player. He played as a centre, which is a key attacking position in hockey. Johnny McCormack was born in Edmonton, Alberta. He played for several famous teams during his career.
Johnny McCormack's Hockey Journey
Johnny McCormack started his professional ice hockey career in 1947. He joined the Toronto Maple Leafs, one of the most well-known teams in the National Hockey League (NHL). After playing for the Maple Leafs, he also played for the Montreal Canadiens. Later, he joined the Chicago Blackhawks. He played in the NHL until the 1955 season.
Winning Big: Stanley Cups and More
Johnny McCormack was a very successful player. He won the most important trophy in ice hockey, the Stanley Cup, two times!
- He won his first Stanley Cup in 1951 with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
- His second Stanley Cup win was in 1953 with the Montreal Canadiens.
Besides the Stanley Cups, Johnny also won other major championships:
- In 1945, he won the Memorial Cup with the Toronto St. Michael's Majors. The Memorial Cup is a big trophy for junior hockey teams in Canada.
- He also won the Allan Cup in 1950. He achieved this with the Toronto Marlboroughs. The Allan Cup is for senior amateur ice hockey teams in Canada.
Later Life and Legacy
After his hockey career, Johnny McCormack lived a long life. He passed away on February 22, 2017. He was 91 years old when he died at his home in Oshawa, Ontario.
